Dan Slott Relapses, Gives Superior Spider-Man New Costume

Dan Slott flushes seven months of new spider-costume sobriety down the drain in Superior Spider-Man #15.

Source: IGN

IGN has a first look at Marvel's Spider-Man family solicits, and friends and family of Superior Spider-Man writer Dan Slott will find themselves saddened and disappointed by what it reveals: Slott has relapsed, giving Spider-Man a new costume. It had been 14 issues since Slott last revamped Spider-Man's costume, as the Doctor Spiderpuss version of the character had some small changes, such as claw-like fingers. However, many remember when Slott was in the "rock-bottom" stage of his new-costume abuse, sometimes creating multiple costumes in a single issue for the Peter Parker version of the character.

The Superior Spider-Man #1 redesign was understanble, since the character was changing so drastically, but, during Slott's preceding Amazing Spider-Man run, Slott put Peter in dozens of different costumes, each with unique powers, such as armor, stealth, or the ability to make Spider-Man's butt look remarkably trim.

The costumes ranged from hideous and unnecessary:

To absurd:

To downright salacious:

At one point, thanks to Slott, the Marvel Universe was littered with so many alternate Spider-Man costumes, they were frequently being found discarded in trash cans in alleyways:

But after Superior Spider-Man launched, Slott seemed to have finally gotten the help he needed to overcome his problem and get back to doing what he does best: ruining Spider-Man the old fashioned way, with offensive treatment of the characters, rather than with bad fashion sense. Unfortunately, this brief period of sobriety seems to have come to an end, as the cover to Superior Spider-Man #15 shows Slott back to his old tricks.

How long before Slott is found slumped in a Dunkin Donuts bathroom, pants around his ankles, drooling on himself, with half-scribbled costume ideas on post-it notes strewn about the floor, high out of his gourd on a massive dose of costume design?

We give it about three weeks.

Check out the cover below, and tell us what you think!

Does Ock-Spidey kill the Dipshit Urich Hobgoblin by chance? If he does, I would actually buy that issue.

I would hate this costume if Peter Parker were wearing it but it's not a bad look for Octospidey. Hopefully somebody in the Marvel universe will see this and realize that something isn't right.

I like the costume, but surely this makes it incredibly obvious that Ock is Spider-Man?

And yet Iron Spidey did not make people think that, so why now?

You would think that eventually one of the "geniuses" in the Marvel Universe would put two and two together. :smt102

Because he'd only just come out on national TV and revealed that he was Peter Parker and everyone knew that Iron Spidey was designed by Tony Stark.

Because Iron Spidey didn't run around killing people or saying things like "of all the unmitigated gall!"

So the fact that he was Iron Spidey and had those extra limbs means he could not choose to return to them? Plus, did not that deal undo the reveal?

The dialog stands out, but the costume does not scream DOC OCK, since he had the extra limbs previously as Iron Spidey.
