Took the boy to Toys R Us today to buy a bike helmet, per wife's silly request, and ended up buying him a bunch tracks and accessories for his Hot Wheels. Put together a loop and a couple curves and he had a blast!

I'm taking him out to ride his "new" bike later. After that we'll pick up wife from the book fair that she's working at today and go eat at a Mediterranean fest.

So what you're saying is that Jude should have a do-over wedding, and make sure someone brings in some animatronic animals.

And video games.
What's a wedding without video games??

There should at least be air hockey tables and a carpeted wall with a spigot that dispenses cheap white wine.

:x

It's at a banquet hall next to the bay. There is a chocolate fountain. Standard wedding buffet with a whole roast pig. About a hundred people here, mostly adults. There is an MC dressed like a princess. She read a speech about how much life changes when you turn 7 and how it's an important milestone.

The whole thing is surreal. It must have cost at least 5000 dollars, if not 10.

Well, I hoped you bowed and scraped before Little Lord Fauntleroy or whoever he is!

I never did anything like this as a kid. I just have no frame of reference for it. Is this normal? Birthday parties for me meant the family at the kitchen table, or maybe on a really special birthday, chucky cheese or its ilk.

I feel like something like this breeds the sort of spoiled, privileged human beings that are currently ruining western civilization with their deeply ingrained but entirely wrong idea that they are extremely special by nature of their existence.

The cake just arrived. It is wedding cake.

No that's not normal. Blame MTV. If I could, I'd launch a nuke keyed to your GPS coordinates and give you 10 minutes warning.

They just had a bunch of other kids carry a single rose each up to the birthday girl, sitting on a throne. I shit you not.

It was an (admittedly talented) dude singing it in falsetto over a ukelele.
