But it leaves me wondering... why? Is McGann being a pain in the ass or is it the show runner?

Well he's already in the Big Finish 50th anniversary story, along with Doctor's 4-7, so that's probably all the anniversary celebrating he feels he can take. :-D

"Why are you pointing your screwdrivers like that? They're scientific instruments, not water pistols."
"Oh, the pointing again! They're screwdrivers! What are you going to do? Assemble a cabinet at them?"
"Are you capable of speaking without flapping your hands about?"
""Timey" what? "Timey wimey"?"

Chris wrote:Prior to this episode, honestly, I kind of felt like New Who has been very hesitant to acknowledge the past and anything pre-2005. Which was explanation enough for McGann being ignored every year.

Then this episode happened... and now I don't know.

We've had plenty of instances where the past is made relevant: Doctor (images & memories), 5th Doctor, Daleks, Cybermen, Sarah Jane, K-9, The Master, Silurians, Sontarans, UNIT, Ice Warriors, The Great Intelligence, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, the Macra, Autons, etc etc etc.

Over in Sarah Jane Adventures; Trickster, Jo Grant & the Brigadier were all brought back (maybe more, I haven't seen many episodes).

I think the show has done quite well recognizing the past. If anything it's those silly TV 'specials' that air that only acknowledge RTD forward that dismisses the past.

Chris, I've seen references to the novel Remembrance of the Daleks before, but the novel isn't canon. Susan is his granddaughter, in the sense that she is the child of one of his children.

BTW, for me a highlight of the episode was getting to see what a Tardis actually looks like when it's not stuck in the form of a police box.

So the Doctor can only regenerate 12 times?

I feel I need to watch the original series to fully know what is going on. :|

Yes, but there is precedent for that to be extended.

The Time Lords gave The Master a new bunch of regenerations, for example.

Yep. And also, anyone who thinks that the show will end after Doctor #13 is out of their minds!

See, I need to watch the old episodes.

That was my thoughts exactly, there is no way for them to end the show now. But who would be able to grant this for the Doctor if there are no more Time Lords?

They could come up with anything, really. For instance, off the top of my head: he's the last of the Time Lords so he has all their residual regeneration energy.

Sounds a bit dire, like a vampire, or The Highlander II.

Sure. But as I say, they can come up with any number of solutions. That was just off the top of my head.

Or they could be using the 50th to bring back the Time Lords for good.
