If by "sure thing" we mean "total speculation" and by "give Spider-Man rights back to Marvel" we mean "not give them back."
It must be a slow day for unique hits over at ComicBookMovie.com, because they're really stretching to come up with sensational headlines. In an article titled "Sony May Part With SPIDER-MAN Movie Rights; Will Peter Parker Join The MCU?" the gossip website claims that Sony, in an attempt to escape financial troubles and focus on their electronics division, is considering selling off their entertainment franchises, including Spider-Man and Resident Evil. the assertion is based on a quote by Sony chief executive Kazuo Hirai, responding to a proposal by investor Daniel Loeb that includes selling off the franchises, which reads, "Third Point’s proposal involves the way we manage a core business of the Sony group and the direction of our management. So the Sony board will give it thorough consideration before replying to Mr Loeb."
Hopefully, Sony will not fall vicitm to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia," but only slightly less well known is: never follow the advice of a man named Loeb when it comes to Spider-Man-related entertainment franchises. In any case, we're very pleased that ComicBookMovie was willing to so shamelessly farm hits with this article, as it allows us to do the exact same thing while simultaneously making fun of them for it.
