Journey Back into the Black Hole Via This New Poster

Journey Back into the Black Hole Via This New Poster

An awesomely trippy new poster by Mark Daniels from the VERY under-rated late 70s dark Disney Sci-Fi epic.

The Dark Ink has a nifty poster of the Black Hole (1979), available in limited quantities for $50 by Mark Daniels of the dark sci-fi Disney epic directed by Gary Nelson that sported an all-star cast of Maximilian Shell, Anthony Perkins, Robert Forester, Yvette Mimieux, Ernest Borgnine, the voices of Slim Pickins, and Roddy McDowell as old B.O.B. and V.I.N.CENT.  Of course, the real star of the movie, the vicious "android" Maximilian, is front and center in the poster. Check it out:

Sweet isn't it?

This reporter for one has pleasant memories of the VERY under-rated and dark movie that Disney really hasn't given the due it deserves on DVD or Blu-Ray. The movie along with Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974),  helped fuel my love for science fiction though specifically androids and cyborgs. My mind still is embedded with the cold callous machine of Maximilian who still is a sight to behold after all these years. Along with just the awing design of the Cygnus and just trippy score from John Barry (Instra Land Records released a complete score two years ago and yes I so snagged that the moment I heard about it).

Dammit Disney give this movie it's proper due already! Enough bare-hones DVD/Blu Ray. EXTRAS and a good transfer! I demand it!!! You're even about to remake the movie directed by Joseph Kosinski, that nice fella who also made Tron: Legacy (2010). Alright, enough talk; this article needs more MAXIMILIAN (and V.I.N.CENT) :

For once I am in complete agreement with Zechs. The Black Hole was awesome because it was dark, and VinCENT was a big smartass.

Black Hole was awesome, a few years ago I won a contest by identifying the movie from a little bit of the soundtrack. I knew right away, because I used to watch that movie over and over. Had the toys too.

Most people don't remember this either, but Jack Kirby did a comic book adaptation for Disney after he left Marvel:

I loved my Maximilian figure. He always kicked the crap out of Darth Vader. 8)

I don't know what hones are, but I'm pretty sure it's inappropriate for them to be bare.

I'm surprised the MSTK guys never covered Black Hole.

I like the movie but it really doesn't hold up at all.

No, but it's a product of it's time. I appreciate it for what it was though and the fact that it is among one of the darkest movies that has the name "Disney" attached to it. That along with the Black Cauldron join a hidden part of Disney that I appreciate even more. Plus it had Roddy McDowell as a wise cracking bad ass robot.

It's like This Island Earth. It's a product of the time it was in. Doesn't change the fact that it's hilarously bad and cheesy. All the better when it was chosen:

Still, there's still an adult edge I appreciate it like the trippiness of going into the Black Hole, the fate of the Cygnus crew, and what happens to some of the characters in the actual movie.. especially poor poor Anthony Perkins.

The toys were indeed awesome - I wish I still had mine.

I found a box of childhood clothes at my parents' house, and one was a Black Hole t-shirt with Vincent on it. It is a straight-up 70s tee with a different color band, but looks 'retro' today, so it's still in style, lol.

All my stuff is long gone too.

I think the movie holds up incredibly well, actually, especially in comparison to the Disney fare of the '90s.
