The Los Angeles Times reports that DreamWorks Animation has picked up writer/actor/composer Tim Minchin to help create an animated musical project set in Australia titled Larrikins (which is Australian slang for mischievous youth). The movie will center on an uptight bilby who ventures out of his safe burrow, trading his sheltered life for a musical adventure across the wild Australian outback.

What do you get when you combine the creative teams behind Archer on FX and Eastbound & Down on HBO? An obese gay white rapper who, fresh out of the hoosegow, uses the only skillz he has as he embarks on his journey for self-styled redemption and maybe world domination in the animated series Chozen on the new FXX network. Adam Reed and Matt Thompson [both responsible for Sealab 2021 and Archer] join Danny McBride [Eastbound & Down] as producers and likely character voices.

The season debut of Chozen will air on the brand spanking new FXX network on September 2, 2013.

DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. has signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to provide 300 hours of original programming, with the first new shows set to premiere some time next year (one of which, Turbo F.A.S.T. based on the unreleased film Turbo, was announced in February this year). The new programming will be “inspired” by DreamWorks Animation’s hit films and from holdings in the Classic Media library (such as Casper the Friendly Ghost, She-Ra, and Mr. Magoo) which DreamWorks acquired last year.

You can say what you want about Disney – and many people have – but you cannot say they are not prepared to make even more money than they already have. Toward that end, Disney has already announced a sequel to its yet-to-be-released Planes film, changed the title on its Muppets movie and switched around some release dates. The sequel to this summer’s Planes movie will be Planes: Fire and Rescue, the Muppets movie [starring Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey] will be changed to Muppets Most Wanted [from The Muppets…Again] and release dates were announced or changed for Saving Mr. Banks [December 13, 2013], Muppets Most Wanted [March 21, 2014], Planes: Fire and Rescue [July 18, 2014], The Hundred-Foot Journey [August 8, 2014], Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day [October 10, 2014], Tomorrowland [December 12, 2014] and Into The Woods [December 25, 2014] as well as two untitled Marvel projects for May 6, 2016 and May 5, 2017, respectively.
