Is that how the ultimate american soldier defeats enemy combatants, with a healthy portion of apple pie and then wait for heart disease to kick in?

Oh well, if his fanbase is happy, who am I to judge? :smt102

A god and an invading army aren't viable antagonists?

Such as...?

Please explain what was contrived here verses what went down in MoS?

So lacking in originality as to be obvious and boring: No matter what dialogue Whedon is writing, it always comes out as Scooby Speak from his Buffy days.

Pedestrian as in commonplace, unoriginal.

Not this god who can't keep his thralls in check and not this army that cruises downtown New York until it's time for them to be attacked/defeated.

Watching our heroes bicker and get over their feet of clay in the great Marvel tradition. External antagonism is always an after thought and once the internal group dynamic is resolved victory over the "bad guy" becomes a forgone conclusion.

I already did. If Dr. Selvig hadn't conveniently built a backdoor security override feature despite being subjugated by a god and told Black Widow about it right at the last minute, then the Avengers wouldn't have been able to close the portal or stop the invasion. The Avengers relied on a plot contrivance to achieve victory. If that's not a deal breaker in your eyes, all the power to you, MMDV.

Not for cry baby man children who can't let go of the past, no there isn't. Which is why it's setting records at the box office and exceeding SR's domestic BO by it's second week. Unlike Grant Morrison, Mark Waid or fans like you, MoS has balls and the fans love it!

Just like the good ol days.

you know it's bad when someone is actually trying to brag about MoS doing better than Superman Returns in theaters.

Not when it takes less than 14 days. :-D

It's also surpassed III & IV but that's nothing worth bragging about.

Fair enough... though I didn't think anyone sounded like a teenage girl in high school. Maybe I missed it somewhere... :smt102

Ntikrst wrote:Pedestrian as in commonplace, unoriginal.

I still don't know what you mean... how is this action movie's pacing more commonplace or unoriginal than A) any other action movie and; B) more commonplace or unoriginal than MoS? and; C) Where is MoS superior?

Ntikrst wrote:Not this god who can't keep his thralls in check and not this army that cruises downtown New York until it's time for them to be attacked/defeated.

Again, how is this different than other action movies?

One of my FAVOURITE action flicks, Die Hard, pretty much has Hans Gruber unable to contain most of his guys as they don't do as he says or when he says it until the inevitable defeat by John McLean.

Ntikrst wrote:Watching our heroes bicker and get over their feet of clay in the great Marvel tradition.

So you don't like that the characters are like their comic inspiration? :smt017

Ntikrst wrote: External antagonism is always an after thought and once the internal group dynamic is resolved victory over the "bad guy" becomes a forgone conclusion.

Yes... as in every action movie including MoS.

Superman killing someone to attain a victory is just as much a contrivance in my eyes.

Everyone killed everyone in the Golden Age because that was the Golden Age. Heck even the Joker died in his first appearance originally. Plus that guy who died was probably a Nazi. And if movies and comics have taught me anything, Nazis have no souls. So... technically that wasn't a human life to begin with. He was on the level of a Parademon. So.. Superman didn't kill anyone then.

I was just about to laud Vic Squid for the anonymous poll! It's been a long time. And people can really give their opinions without worry.

(by no means an admission of my guilt in voting for MoS)

I feel I should click on Avengers or else be lynched here.
"Why are you pointing your screwdrivers like that? They're scientific instruments, not water pistols."
"Oh, the pointing again! They're screwdrivers! What are you going to do? Assemble a cabinet at them?"
"Are you capable of speaking without flapping your hands about?"
""Timey" what? "Timey wimey"?"

The original Superam made 455 million adjusted for inflation. Proof positive that people crave a moral Superman done right more than a murdering douche.
