Nightwing to Take One for the Team in 'Forever Evil'

The central character to be affected in DC's upcoming Forever Evil/Villain's Month will be Nightwing. (Updated)

Dan Didio: They might make it through September, but I can’t guarantee they’ll make it through the entire series. That includes what might be one of the most talked about events for DC Comics this year. One of our major recognizable characters will be affected in a very dramatic way.

Jim Lee: If you’re going to do an event that impacts the entire universe, there have to be consequences or repercussions, and this one is going to be meaningful. It all comes out of the great story starting in September.

Bleeding Cool is reporting that Aaron Haaland, after attending the DC Retailer Roadshow, confirmed that Nightwing will be the "major recognizable character affected in a very dramatic way."  Then reminding us that Didio had wanted to kill off Nightwing in Infinite Crisis.

So what do you think?  Will they kill Nightwing off or have him suffer some horrific injury forcing him to the sidelines (creating a new Oracle)?  If removed, will another Robin rise to take his place?  Will Nightwing himself become a Villain?  Let us know what you think in the comments.

UPDATE:

Bleeding Cool returned today to speak about the rumor, saying: No, Nightwing will not die, but given what's to happen to him, death may be preferable.  I guess we'll have to wait and see for the official "affect" Nightwing is to experience, but at least this let's us narrow down the speculation.

Didio deaths are like Bendis deaths.

They get better after a year or two.

They just killed Damian. I doubt they'd kill Dick a few months later.

Ten bucks says they cripple him. He'll be the new Oracle.

Damn do the editors like forcing bad things to happen to Dick in the New 52. First in DotF, Dick loses his entire supporting cast and dream of rebuilding Haley's Circus to the Joker, then Damian dies, and now this. What is wrong with having one clear direction for this character?!

Damien, Dick... either Tim and Jason need to watch out or some DC character with a name starting with the letter "D".

Man, if Dick dies... Didio is going to be killed by the ladies and gay guys for it. Mind you, the yell "YOU KILLED MY DICK!" will be comic, more so in public. :P

"MY DICK IS DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU!"
"MY DICK IS DEAD BECAUSE OF DIDIO!"
"MY DICK IS DEAD BECAUSE OF DC COMICS!"

Geez, this stuff almost writes itself!

Too old school. This is more Jubilee/new fanboy style.

They might kill him off, but it won't stick. They'll bring him back due to fan demand or suffer financial losses. Crippling him is an idea, making him the New52's Oracle. But he's way too in shape for a DC male to be stuck in a tactically supportive role, away from the action.

Either way, I can't bring myself to care. I've lost faith in DC's ability to deliver quality, outside of a few writers.
