Amazon Launches New Comic Imprint, Industry Prepares for Doom

The online bookstore has entered into the comic publishing business.

Source: Comics Beat

Remember when the aliens first arrived in Independence Day in their big, ominous looking spaceships, and people didn't quite know how to react?  Well, that day has come for the comic book industry.  Amazon, the online juggernaut, has announced a new comic imprint named Jet City Comics which will focus on the complete annihilation of the comic industry publishing graphic novels written by some of today's top sci-fi/fantasy writers.

Among Jet City's first offerings are a re-release of George R. R. Martin's Dunk and Egg graphic novels, set in A Song of Ice and Fire's universe, a new adaptation of Martin's Meathouse Men, an adaptation of Hugh Howey's Wool by Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray and Jimmy Broxton, and six comics set in the popular alternative history Mongoliad universe.  " write....comics.....and destroy.....Earth....," said one of the writers who was noticably wrapped in alien tentacles.

We're still waiting to see how this impacts the comic industry, but don't be surprised to see publishers fight back in a desperate assault to prevent Amazon from completely taking over.  "We will not go quietly into the night," said Dan Didio when asked about the news.  "We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!"

Amazon was testing it out last year. I remember getting a free comic "Blackburn Burrow" from them at the Baltimore Comicon.

Well eventually they were going to fail at something.

When you're as good as Chael, you can only call out people worse than you.
