We've all seen the throne everyone fights to sit in on HBO's Game of Thrones, but what does Martin think of it?
George R.R. Martin, he's the guy who actually writes the A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels for those of you coming straight from watching the show, believes they've never got the Iron Throne quite right on the hit TV Show.
He recently posted an image from artist Marc Simonetti from the upcoming The World of Ice and Fire book to show what he thinks is the closest anyone has come to truly showing what the Iron Throne looks like:
“It’s a rough, not a final version, so what you see in the book will be more polished. But Marc has come closer here to capturing the Iron Throne as I picture it than any other artist to tackle it. From now on, THIS will be the reference I give to every other artist tackling a throne room scene. This Iron Throne is massive. Ugly. Assymetric. It’s a throne made by blacksmiths hammering together half-melted, broken, twisted swords, wrenched from the hands of dead men or yielded up by defeated foes... a symbol of conquest...”
Definitely an imposing throne and one that would have been awe inspiring to see on the show. Although I guess not as easy to lug around for fans all over the globe. It's very similar to Marc's prior painting of the Throne Room:
