I've slowly been re-reading Cerebus for some time now. On and off again between other books. Right now I'm in the middle of "Women" which I think is a sensational graphic novel. I have From Hell waiting for me but haven't had the time yet :-(

Don't leave From Hell on your bedside. It will give you nightmares. Not joking.

Does Cerebus need to be read in order?

Just read this last night. I must have read the single issues 20 times as a kid, but it was good to revisit. Noncenti was so good. Recommended.

Brief Lives was good, I loved Jill Thompson's art and getting a closer look at all of the Endless. However, when did Morpheus get this girlfriend he's moping about at the start of the story? That came out of nowhere, you never see him with a woman. It made me feel like I had missed something.

He got together with the girlfriend between the end of A Game of You and their break-up you see here. While you won't get any flashbacks to the relationship itself, you will find out who it was with.

It seems an odd choice to not show this happen, has Gaiman ever said why?

I don't have the companion to hand, and googling it hasn't got me a proper answer. I suggest you don't do any digging until after The Wake.

The girlfriend's identity is revealed later on. And without giving too much away, their relationship is hinted at in a previous story.

Fiddler's Green/Gilbert mentions her in Soft Places and she's also mentioned in the tea party story at some point I think by Matthew.

You will learn who she is in The Kindly Ones. You will learn the history in The Wake.

From this point, things start to lead into others. See if you can pick up some of the easter eggs in World's End.

I'm about halfway through Absolute All-Star Superman and I had forgotten just how much of an amazing read that it is. I'm really trying to take my time and take everything in this time around and I have to admit, the ending to the issue featuring Jonathan Kent still leaves me choked up every time.

I have been buying the single issues since just before the first trade came out, so I am caught up. Still going to buy the hardcover though...

Any good extras?
