Patrick Troughton Peter Davison Tom Baker Matt Smith Jon Pertwee Cristopher Eccleston Colin Baker Sylvester McCoy Paul McGann William Hartnell David Tennant very narrowly edges out Troughton for the top spot. I still like Troughton's character of the "cosmic hobo" the best, but I saw much more of Tennant's cheeky doctor so I got to know him much better. |

Of the old Doctors... I like Patrick Troughton the best. |

I was actually thinking that Matt Smith might end up being the favorite since most of the people I know personally who were Tennant fans have been won over by Smith... I guess that didn't prove to be the case however. |

From your 'List only your favorite' poll. Troughton get no love (yet placed in peoples top 4 list a number of times). |

Haven't seen any Peter Davison, Colin Baker, or Sylvester McCoy and only a smattering of Tom Baker. |

Damn you be old. ![]() McCoy. I wish he'd had one more season. They were really starting to mess around with him as a manipulative bastard. |

![]() Never like Who when I was a kid and PBS aired T. Baker episodes, and only started watching with the Fox movie and the relaunch. I went back and started watching from the beginning and left off about two thirds into the Pertwee run. |

I'll go one better and say my favorite story is 'Girl in the Fireplace'. The first story I ever saw, it informs so much of what I think of the Doctor and the show and the very, very depressing nature of time-travel. And of France. Matt Smith bothers me. Loved Pertwee. McCoy was good too. Baker's my silver standard. For no other reason than a little story called The Deadly Assassin. |

I like his perpetually peeved Doctor. Plus, he's the only Doctor who LOOKS as intimidating as the character often is. ![]() |

I'm currently on season 3 but I have agree so far Eccleston stood out more as an alien entity who is more peeved yet curious to be around humans where Tennent has is a very giddy child hoping around space and time. |

I agree with you guys as well regarding Eccleston. He definitely gave off more of the tough pissed off persona that is suiting to an intimidating alien. But I think that is due a lot to the fact that he was written as the bitter and lonely Doctor. Rose's character was put in place to kind of break him out of that, which is why Tennant's doctor tended to be a lot looser and less bitter towards everything. Rose broke down the wall the time war had built up within him. [Reveal] Spoiler: Click to Expand We kind of see Smith portray that bitter Doctor again during the season 7 Christmas special after he loses Amy and Rory. As a side note, after creating this thread I decided to go back and check out some of the classic Doctors again, and I would definitely have to say that Troughton is my second favorite after Tennant. |
