SDCC: DC to Release Harley Quinn Ongoing

The series will be co-written by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti.

Source: CBR

Harley Quinn is getting her own series.  The villainous sometimes sidekick of the Joker will be featured in a new series written by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti, with an artist to be named later.  In an interview with the co-writers, Conner and Palmiotti revealed that they'll be moving the character out of Gotham and will focus on what the character does when she's not interacting with the Suicide Squad and the rest of the DCU.

It was also mentioned that Harley will be getting new costumes, one of which was inspired by a roller derby outfit and is featured in the cover to Harley Quinn #1.  Look how tastefully it shows off her butt and the curvature of her chest! Oh well, at least it was drawn by Conner, so I think that means it's won't rile up the Internet? Anyways, check it out below.

It's clever for DC to try and market to Roller Derby People, I think the type of woman who gets into that would also be into other nerdy pursuits. At the Conventions I've been to, the local Roller Derby groups have a presence and try to recruit.

But Ales Kot should be writing this book, his Harley is the best I've read in a long time. :smt013

She specifically said in that interview, also, that she's designing the costumes with cosplayers in mind; trying to design costumes cosplayers will enjoy making and wearing.

Now that's dumb, fuck Cosplay, if anything, writers should be making it impossible for those losers to do the costumes.

And here I was thinking Conner was using Pauley Perrette as a model for Harley.

Yup.

Also. I wouldn't have known that was Harley if I only saw the picture. I miss her classic look. :(

I want to try and guess the next book that DC will be releasing that ties into Batman in some way. The ongoing adventures of Alfred. Bruce Wayne - the full story of his training, etc.

They tried that as a TV show, but it never made it to air. Instead, it led to Smallville.

That's a pretty savvy move. If they're going to be messing with her outfit anyway, I'd rather see this as a guideline than unfathomable trends like high neck collars, or past fads like ginormous shoulder pads and ubiquitous pouches.

Did a cosplayer kill your parents or something?

If cosplayers have proven anything, it's that nothing is impossible to emulate in costume form.
