SDCC: Robotech And Voltron Combine To Form A Comic

But who will form the head?

Source: SDCC: Giant Robots Collide In "Robotech/Voltron" Crossover

Dynamite Entertainment has announced that they will be publishing a Robotech/Voltron event comic. This is the first time for this particular crossover as the properties have origins in different companies. Both titles are based on 1980s Japanese science-fiction anime and involve giant robot/mecha and alien combat. Voltron is based on an anime called Beast King GoLion (百獣王ゴライオン) and Robotech on three separate series (Super Dimension Fortress Macross 超時空要塞マクロス, Super Dimension Calvary Southern Cross 超時空騎団サザンクロス, and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA 機甲創世記モスピーダ). Voltron also had a season based on Amored Fleet Dairugger XV (機甲艦隊ダイラガーXV), that was not mentioned as part of this.

Creative director from Harmony Gold (licensors of Robotech) Tommy Yune, had this to say about the project:

"Both franchises have endured in their popularity today and fans have long speculated of an epic crossover between the universes.  The opportunity to do so is an honor, and it's a welcome challenge to construct a storyline that works well with key characters on both sides.  Most important of all, it's going to be a lot of fun with plenty of surprises."

No details have been provided about the plot for the series or when we can expect to see this realized. Dynamite is currently publishing Voltron comics and the property itself will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in the USA in 2014 (so expect it before or around then). Dynamite will also be publishing a stand alone Robotech comic after the event (and Robotech will be celebrating it's 30th USA birthday in 2015).

Who couldn't go for more giant robots?
