DC's done a pretty good job of that on their own haven't they?

Precisely. I'm thoroughly convinced that DC did not think this reboot through as much as they should have (see my Joe Q. comment earlier). They wanted to increase readership, thus sales, and particularly among young readers. Understandable. Unfortunately, they decided not to focus on little things like "details" as to how some of the stuff they insist "still counted" could've happened if everything else is wiped away. It would have been better to take a page from Marvel's guidebook and create a separate universe line.

I've been saying for some time that, as much as I want more stories with Cassie and Steph (the latter grew on me as Batgirl), I don't want them brought back in the New52. DC is determined to annihilate them, not for creativity, not for dynamic storytelling...but because some editor just "doesn't like them, doesn't get them." Kind of like how some TV executives who "don't like or understand" action shows are put in charge of a network or studio's action-based programming (I hear that's why X-Men: Evolution's first season was so ho-hum).

Call it mild egotism, but it's sort of a "if you want it done right, you've got to do it yourself" feeling for me.

I would love to see Marvel create characters similar to Stephanie Brown and the other ones DC ain't using just to fuck with DC and the fans. Maybe have them show up in Deadpool and let 'Pool kill them off.

Unless you're a Cassandra Cain fan. Ever since 2003 DC Editors have had a vendetta against the character. First canceling her ongoing since they viewed "two" female Bats too much for the market. Then they made her evil. Then they didn't. Then they gave her to Chuck Dixon who did alright with her. Then they gave her to Adam Beechen.

It's like little pockets of hope you think DC have learned their lesson and finally adjusted, then this person or editor who's so vindictive of the character decides to ruin it. This is just the current slate of a long history of neglect DC has done with the character.

Agreed.

Why this big push to "bring back" Stephanie? or Wally, or Donna, or anyone else we haven't "seen" yet? Without the return of the DCU and their various continuities, they won't be "Stephanie", or "Wally", or "Donna", but merely people who share their names. Do you just like the sound of these particular names?

"Superman" is "back", but this character is no more recognizable as Superman than a host of other characters they could be writing about.

Did you folks fall in love with a name, and thus as long as ANYONE comes back that has the name of a beloved character you are fine with it?

Which is why, when I saw that they were apparently bringing in a cheap fascimile of Kimiyo Hoshi, my response has been:

That's just wrong.

DC should bring back Stephanie Brown.

And have Superman snap her neck by the end of the issue.

Stephanie Brown (to Superman): I brought you some waffles!

(Superman snaps Stephanie's neck)

Superman: I hate waffles.

(growling) Now you gone too far Clark! I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you. (Kills Clark)

(Diana) You have just killed the sire of a warrior queen! (Magic lasso's a noose around Batman's neck hanging him.

Whatever hussy. He's not even supposed to be yours. (Lois pulls the trigger to a gun pointed at the back of Diana's neck) Bracelets just can't quite reach that scratch...

Feel free to continue...

Since you've never seen a character that fits that description, you'll never know. :P
