SDCC: No Hank Pym in Avengers 2

Whedon just said the Ultron creator wouldn't be in the new film.

Source: CBM

During a conversation on Marvel's Live blog, Joss Whedon stated that Hank Pym would NOT appear in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.  Courtesy of ComicBookMovie, here's his exact quote:

We're crafting our own version of it where his origin comes more directly from The Avengers we already know about. It's a little bit darker than the other film because Ultron is in the house. There's a science fiction theme that wasn't there in the other one. Ultron is definitely something that evolves, so we're going to get together a couple of different iterations. Nothing can be translated exactly as it was from the comics; particularly Ultron.

It also seems that Hawkeye will have a larger role in the new movie.

It's very much a global Avengers film. A lot of the movie has to do with their place not just in America, but the world. Part of the fun for me, definitely this time around, is writing Hawkeye. He did get possessed pretty early by a bad guy and had to walk around all scowly for most of the movie so now it's nice to actually have the character there and see him interact with the other guys.

Our working theory is that Tony Stark, not Hank Pym, will create Ultron (and rumored character The Vision) in the movie. What do you think?

SDCC: Whedon Says No Pym in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron

Whedon revealed a lot of details about the Avengers sequel in an interview on Marvel.com.

Source: ComicBookMovie.com

Joss Whedon gave an interview to Marvel.com for their Comic Con Live Stream, and though it's not available yet, Josh Wilding over at ComicBookMovie transcribed it and posted it on their site. Whedon dropped some info about Age of Ultron, the sequel to Avengers:

Hank Pym won't be in the movie. Whedon said they will drop a lot of things from the Age of Ultron comic plot, which is good, because that comic stunk on ice if the ice were made out of frozen dog shit, but which is also bad, because it implies some elements from the comic will be used. Ultron will instead be created by members of the existing team, and we will see several different iterations of Ultron in the movie as it evolves.

Whedon also promised more focus for Hawkeye in the film.

How were "invading space aliens from another dimension" not a science fiction theme. :?

Not really a fan of the idea of Hank Pym not being involved in Ultron's creation.

Disappointing.

Well, we'll see what they come up with.

I'm not happy that we're not going to get hank Pym and Jan in the Avengers. It doesn't seem right to have a team of Avengers with no history of them being members of the team. Having said that, I am happy that Vin Diesel won't be playing him though, as that rumour seemed liked a complete miscast to me.

Good. Never going to be a good thing, putting wifebeating scenes in a superhero movie.

Looks like they're totally trying to avoid the whole Domestic disturbance issue with these two characters. I'm betting It's Lang that's going to be in the Ant Man film and not Pym as well.

I don't see how they're going to do Ultron without Pym, it's pretty lame for them to do it.

I'm guessing Tony Stark will invent it in this Universe.

See, here's what I don't get about this line of thinking -- why do the movie people even have to deal with it? Any movie version of the two characters would be starting out fresh. There's no law that says they ever have to have Hank hit Jan even once.

It's not hard to picture this evolving from the end of IM3, considering the automation of Jarvis, the suits, and Tony's desire to be with Pepper. Hell, this might be a byproduct of Pepper's Extremis infection.

Still sucks and another thing to be disappointed about.

Although I'd prefer Pym, I could see Stark inventing Ultron in the MCU. JARVIS going evil (or something like that) would certainly be a reason to include Stark (even if he's no longer Iron Man) in the sequels.

The more I hear about this movie the more it sounds like it's going to be a tremendous flop.
