From yesterday's Wolverine and the X-Men #33:
That girl in the Black Queen outfit is Idie, a fourteen year old mutant. And while the scene sort of makes sense in the context of the comic (Idie is undercover at a teenage version of the Hellfire Club and I guess is trying to seduce a teenage boy in order to get to the bottom of a recent attack on a friend), this is still how a fourteen year old girl is depicted in a comic book.
I honestly don't know what sort of conversation we're supposed to have over this. Is it the fact that even fourteen year old girls can't escape from the curvaceous body type most female comic book characters have? Is it that this weird sexualization occurred in what's been heralded in a "fun and lighthearted" comic (that really isn't at all)? Or is that none of the comic blogging elite seems to care that we just had a fourteen year old girl in a fetish outfit pop up in a mainstream comic?
My gut feeling is that this panel just weirds me out. I'm sure other people will comment that it's perfectly alright, since the outfit was given to her by a evil teenaged boy. I dunno. This is just a really odd panel that stuck out to me yesterday.
