I really enjoyed 'High Cost Of Living', it was just a lot of fun and you can really see why it was closer to becoming a movie than Sandman itself, it would make for a great movie. The only issue would be that Death is kind of the original 'Manic Pixie Dream Girl' and later stories with that archetype have ruined things and people would probably hate her now. Chris Bachalo's art was excellent, it's weird seeing how much his style has changed and evolved over the years.
'Time Of Your Life' was OK, not as good because I never really cared about Hazel and Foxglove. It felt like the most 90s comic ever too, unlike the rest of Gaiman's work, it did feel dated. The best thing about it was that one of Foxglove's songs was called 'George's Tongue', a great reference to Game Of You.
The other short stories in there were OK, I thought the safe-sex one was hilarious.
Next up for me in the Sandman-verse... Lucifer Volume 1... but I think I'm going to read some prose novels first.
When I read 'Time Of Your Life' I had no idea who Hazel and Foxglove were. But the whole lesbian romance thing instanty grabbed my attention. And before I knew it I was deeply in love with those two girls.
'High Cost Of Living' is great too. I felt quite identified with the depressive teenager who considers suicide as an option.
