DC Announces Black Canary/Zatanna Graphic Novel by Paul Dini and Joe Quinones

Yes, please.

Source: ComicsAlliance

DC has announced that a long awaited Black Canary/Zatanna story by Paul Dini will finally see print.  The new 94 page OGN will feature more traditional versions of the character (read: pre New 52) and will be illustrated by Joe Quinones.  The book will come out May 2014.

Here's a summary of the series, courtesy of Comics Alliance:

Martial arts mistress, superhero, Bird of Prey, and biker boots fashion pioneer Dinah Lance aka Black Canary defeats some dangerous women baddies whose fearsome leader refuses to be taken alive. She dies, but not before swearing vengeance on Canary from beyond the grave. A year later, some kind of supernatural force is taking out the remaining girl gang members with Black Canary seemingly next in line, prompting Dinah to look up her old friend, the magical mistress, Justice Leaguer and perennial cosplay inspiration Zatanna Zatara. Together the heroines take on this unholy evil, who has a talent for using Zatanna and Dinah’s talents and shortcomings against each other.

I'll be honest, they had me at "Paul Dini Zatanna".  Sign me up.  Here'e the cover, by Amanda Conner.

Sounds like a winner, one of the few coming out of DC these days. So this isn't set in the Nu52, but they don't want to say it's set in the old DCU?

Jeeze, guys, just fire your whole top management, admit the Nu52 was a mistake, and change back!

ThanosCopter please stop posting these articles with an obvious DC bias. We get it - you love DC Comics and everything they produce and they can do no wrong.

SOLD!

Well, Paul Dini's a large selling point, too, but I'm particularly glad that this won't involve Zatanna fighting evil dressed like a bar waitress.

I love Quinones, but man, Paul Dini's Zatanna fetish is weird.

In fairness to Dini, Dini's wife wears the same outfit as part of her magician gig.

But, yeah, I'm ready for the lobster outfit's comeback. I grew up on that. That will always by my Zatanna. Why can't Geoff Johns ever be nostalgic for the things I'm nostalgic about?

Dini's wife is also a magician and dresses like Zatanna.

Give it a positive spin: Zatanna is Dini's love letter to his wife.

(Not: Dini married his wife because she looked like Zatanna) :-D
