Yeah Pre-52 Vertigo had a much better costume.

he was also a great Squad member, and taking down Darkseid's assassin was a hoot to boot

This took me completely by surprise. First off, the cover with Ollie curled up in a fetal position is pretty hilarious. I didn't actually know much about any iteration of Count Vertigo to begin with and I haven't liked a Green Arrow comic book in ages.

The lack of creator credits on the cover made for some interesting blind reading. Immediately, I was struck by the artwork, very detailed, expertly putting the reading in the Count's POV in the flashbacks of his childhood creating a lot of empathy in the reader. What th--?! This was actually a great read, I would give this a high score if I were actually reviewing it.

Only after I finish do I read the end credits, Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino...oohhhhhh, no wonder it was better than the average bore!

I feel totally weird recommending a DC comic, but there you go.

I picked Green Arrow up on a whim when Lemire took over and it has been surprisingly great. Kinda odd that 2 of the best books from the Big 2 are about archers with no powers. That being said, I still didn't pick up this issue.

So far it's the clear stand-out, the rest of the Villain's Month stuff has been plain to just plain bad.

This book was fantastic. I really need to track down all the Lemire back issues. The first issue of this series was horrid, but I think JT Krul is horrid (outside of his surprising excellent Captain Atom run). But this was great and I love Lemire. What issue did he start on?

Reminds me of the God-awful hang-overs I used to get from drinking Gin

Shouldn't be surprising, Lemire is one of the best writers going today!

It was surprising to me because of how much I had heard about how terrible the book was prior to Lemire coming on board. It's perfect because Lemire's story has been so great that you could literally start with his first issue and not have to read a single issue of what came before it to understand what's going on.
