I've never heard of it, is it watchable?

Season one and part of season two were very good, then there was a huge drop off in quality imo.

Worth investing the time in? Was it cancelled or is it still on?

It went 4 seasons, and I only made it through three.

Season one is worth checking out, but, I wouldn't recommend much beyond that.

IIRC, after season 2 is when the big writers' strike happened.

I enjoyed the few that I saw, but never finished it.

I was pretty bored by the first episode, I'm gonna watch Callan Series 3 instead. :)

I wonder if I would have liked 1970s Britain as much as I like 1970s British TV?

Season 1 gets really good and Season 2 continues the goods, but Season 3 took a confusing direction. Season 4 tried to make up for it, but not in time.

Short answer: no.

Season one was decent but not enough to get invested in the series as a whole.
