Just wondering if you guys liked the actual 3D covers DC just came out with.

NOT the idea or implementation of said covers... but did you like the covers themselves?

I was quite surprised how much I liked them. The previews looked OK but once I saw the actual issue I was suitable impressed!

I know not every cover was great or that everyone will agree on even ehich was best, but in GENERAL did you like them?

Meh. Really. The covers do nothing for the stories inside them.

For the extra dollar (for some issues, the same regular price) they cost it was totally worth it for the effect. 8)

I fucking hate this sort of crap. Just like I hate Marvels baby variants, polybags, trading cards, etc. I like a nice, regular cover, preferably related to what's going on in the book. I also hate the pinup, no relation to the story regular covers companies do. I hate a lot of things.

I dunno... I haven't seen them in person yet.

The IDEA, though... I agree with Jude.

I haven't seen one in person yet, so I don't know how good they look.

I wouldn't pay an extra dollar for a cover no matter what, though. Maybe when I was in high school. I think they would have been fine with the themed 2D covers for the event. And the clusterfuck of an execution with the limited numbers just makes it completely not worth it, especially if they are actually losing money on each one as they claim. Marketing masturbation.

I went with no... mostly because, although the art on some of them was OK in 2D, the 3D ones actually hurt my eyes to look at in the comic shop. I didn't have any on my pull list anyway, but if I had, I'd probably have asked if I could exchange 'em.

It's nice for DC comic books to actually have covers again, instead of that wavy same-cover shit.

Typically, I don't buy comic books for the cover so this gimmick never actually appealed to me. It's a neat effect but I feel that it would have been better on a book like Forever Evil rather than slapping it on every comic that DC published this month.

I think the 3D covers look great, but I opted for the less expensive 2D versions.

I agree with Grayson that they should have used this process for something like Forever Evil instead of every title.

How long until we see another publisher try these out?

Not with all the cast I think I saw on the Forever Evil #1 cover, the more crowded you make the artwork, the less dramatic the lenticular effect would be.

Obviously if they went with my idea the covers of Forever Evil would have needed to be altered which isn't a bad thing. It's not like that cover is particularly dynamic or iconic. The first issue had variant covers featuring Ultraman, Superwoman, and Owlman. Perhaps they could have made a 3D cover for each issue of the series that featured a different member of the Crime Syndicate.

That idea makes a lot of sense.
