Did you like DC's 3D covers? (NOT the idea... the covers)

This is the main board on The Outhouse, where Outhousers talk about everything. No topics are off limits, and it doesn't have to be about comics. All the topics from the other boards also show up in The Asylum, so you never have to leave1

Obviously if they went with my idea the covers of Forever Evil would have needed to be altered which isn't a bad thing. It's not like that cover is particularly dynamic or iconic. The first issue had variant covers featuring Ultraman, Superwoman, and Owlman. Perhaps they could have made a 3D cover for each issue of the series that featured a different member of the Crime Syndicate.

That idea sounds like a typical fan POV that doesn't take into account what DC felt they needed the covers for in the first place. Forever Evil is going to sell, with or without variants, few of these Villains Month one-shots would have sold the same numbers without the covers. I haven't seen this many people actually in the shops on Wednesday actually there to buy DC Comics since the New 52 debuted, regardless of how we may feel about the covers as gimmicks they have fulfilled their purpose so far, which is to sell comics.

(Needless to say, they messed up with the shortages and the photoshopped rerun images are tacky.)

Not sure how the comic shops here did it but they had plenty of the 3D covers available, both on the racks and for the subscriber pulls.

At my shop if you pre-ordered the 3D covers they filled as many as they could for cover price. Any 3D covers left after pre-orders hit the shelf between $6 to $12.

Personally, I think that is bullshit and hate that they will mark up books the day of release, but that's why I fill out an order from Previews every month.

Someone should tell your comic shop Manager that he's taking advantage of his customer's in a very dickish manner

Somebody else said that these covers hurt their eyes to look at. I had the same reaction, these damn things physically hurt my eyes.

I don't like them.

I'm still waiting to see one of these covers in person. I didn't order any of them so I don't know if I'll ever see one.

There are two shops by me. In the one that has much higher volume I didn't see any 3D covers. But the one that deals in lower volumes had piles of them.

They still hurt my eyes.

I'm still not buying any.

Well, maybe if Marvel eventually tries it, and does well, we'll see DC give them a real try too...

He's a nice guy, but in his mind if he doesn't sell something for the absolute most he can get out of it, he's losing money. He'd rather have something sitting on a shelf marked-up, than sell it for a few bucks less.

That's a big reason why I get most of my back-issues elsewhere. If he finds out though, he tries to lay a guilt trip on you for not buying from him and says that he would match the price.

Wow.

There is no way I would buy from a shop like that.

My local shop, Acme Comics, goes out of its way to make people happy. I've never seen them do something like mark prices up on the day of release. I can't honestly imagine them doing it even a couple of weeks later. Usually by shop policy, they have shelves out front with this week's release, and then last week, 2 weeks ago, etc. Everything sells for cover price for the first month. Then things get shifted to the "back room." If there is space (and there usually is) they leave stuff out at cover price on company specific shelves (DC, Marvel, IDW, etc). Once they run out of room, older stuff gets bagged, priced at Overstreet values (I assume), and stuck in boxes. So it's only after about 2 months that they start marking things up as "back issues" - sometimes more. When I decided to try Thor, God of Thunder, issue 7 had just come out, I picked up 1-6 on the Marvel shelves for cover price.

That is how to do it. Marking things up day-of is just not acceptable. I'd find another shop, for sure.

There are two shops in town. The shop I go to is definitely the better shop. The other shop barely deals in books and unless you have a pull list, you're screwed on most titles.

The main reason I stick with the shop I go to is that I "work" there 1 night a week putting books on the wall, sorting, bagging & boarding, and filing. I get store credit instead of money and 20% off almost everything.

How 'bout them cool 3D covers though, huh?

There's a comic shop I went to occasionally that pulled bullshit like that.

From A Death in the Family, Death of Superman to doing the same thing with the 3D covers... bullshit I say.

Which ones did they have selling higher? The more popular issues (like Joker) ir the lesser known issues (like Creeper)?

I didn't get to two shops in Calgary but of the four I did, only one had a lot of them on the shelves (with a limit of 1 per customer) and another had a few of the more popular ones (Joker, Darseid) and none of the lesser villains and the rest had none available to anyone beyond file holders.

The didn't get any 3D Creeper. Vertigo and Bizzarro were $6, Cyborg Superman was $8, Darkseid & Joker were $10.
