I haven't been paying attention to who's writing these before I finish them, it's actually really interesting to throw away my preconceptions about certain writers and then compare my thoughts after I've finished, thought about the book I just read, and then see who actually wrote it.

So what I am going to say here is this was a completely mediocre comic book except for one distinguishing mark--it has THE ABSOLUTE FUCKING DUMBEST SCENE I'VE EVER READ!!! in it.

I won't bore you with the whole comic, and this isn't going to really count as spoilers out of context, so don't worry.

Okay, a basic generic thug character is running for his life and in a panel sees a box of papers on the floor as he's running by and says (to no one), "What's going on in here? What are all these letters?"

And then, instead of continuing to run he stops and reads an entire letter out loud (to the reader, painfully!). I don't think I need to tell you that he won't be attending his own birthday party next year, but that has to be some of the worst comic book writing ever (and worse, is a set-up for some of the writer's trademark mortifyingly-unfunny wisecracks).

so far, my opinions about all the writers are 100% unchanged: Simone is a shockingly bad writer. As is Ann Nocenti, who people swear used to be one of the greats. Jeff Lemire can write a damn good comic book. Who the fuck is Derek Fridolfs, anyway? And finally, Grek Pak is no Jack Kirby!

Not sure what to make of this one, but yeah Gail Simone sucks. I wish there was a better explanation for the dummy.

 Gotcha. Yeah, Gail has skirted around what is really going on with these two in the "Batgirl" title too. Hopes this leads to some fun twist or something.

Ahhh, I gave up on Batgirl a long time ago. I liked the idea of bringing Babs back, but Gail Simone is dreadful.
