by Midas » Wed Aug 21, 2013 1:04 pmI only started reading 2000 AD in the last 5 years or so, so I hadn't seen him in B&W before getting the case files either. At first, I thought they were like the Marvel Essential volumes (cheap B&W omnibuses) but then I learned that those early issues were never colored (accept, I guess, by Marvel--I missed those as a kid).

I usually avoid Essentials (I only bought one a long time ago because I didn't know it was B&W).
Oh so you've been reading the new 2000AD stuff? I've only read a few lose progs in the past 5 years (that and a couple of 2000AD FCBD books).
by Midas » Mon Aug 26, 2013 2:06 pmI just started, and stopped, reading it again. This time on my iPad. It was great but I just can't keep up reading a weekly comic. I quickly found myself MONTHS behind and it just wasn't enjoyable. I'm much better in trades that I can read on my own time. The Dredd epic last year, that crossed over with the Simping Detective and Low Life, was the last I really read. It was absolutely fantastic (as it was a bit of a surprise cross-over). I think it's called "Trifecta" and I would recommend the trade, which may be out by now.
Anyway, got my box today. It was pretty huge, what with two HC ominboo.
I'm thinking of stopping collecting Omniboo that are going to be part of Marvel's EPIC line, since I really dig that format, but I'm not sure yet. How do I pass up V2 of John Byrnne's FF run in omnibus format? Or the Roger Sterm ASM that's forthcoming (for preorder) in a month or two)?

Oh, that Nexus Omnibus must be nice. I only have a few loose issues.
by Evan Meadow » Fri Aug 30, 2013 9:06 am
I need to finally go get that same Nexus Omnibus today. The LCS called me about it last week and I still haven't gone down to get it. Course I'm in the middle of reading the Vol 2 Omnibus right now.

The Dark Horse omnibuses are smaller than most trades...
by Arion » Fri Sep 06, 2013 5:47 pm
Oh, I didn't know that. So they're smaller than a regular comic book? If so, do they shrink the art?
by Midas » Fri Sep 06, 2013 8:40 pm
Yes. The art is definitely shrunk. Amazon UK has the measurements at 22.6 x 15.2 x 2 cm. Despite the shrunk art, I really like the format because it is portable, relatively affordable for the quantity of comics you get and quite readable.
by Arion » Sat Sep 07, 2013 5:29 pm
I don't know, smaller formats are not really my thing...

Holey..! How long does it take you to read all that?
by Midas » Tue Sep 10, 2013 8:47 am
Evan, love reading your lists every month (serious list porn). If you're so inclined, I would love your thoughts on these books above, all of which have piqued my interest at some point.
by Evan Meadow » Tue Sep 10, 2013 9:02 am
LOL well as I've said many times I'm such a slow reader lately I've been behind for months. I'm currently reading the books that came out in March. So in many cases I can't comment on some of them because I haven't even started them yet. The first issue of Sex is in the batch I'm reading now so I'll be getting to that one in a few days. Then I can say something. For the stuff that I have been reading and certainly as enough issues out:
Morning Glories I'm getting up to issue #25. And I really need to read that book over from issue #1 again and read all this at once to see if it makes sense. Spencer makes Lost look like something easy to comprehend. So I may have a different perspective after I do that. But for now I just read it issue by issue trying to do my best to remember what happened the month before.
Saga, Fatale, and Cyber Force are great reads. Obviously Saga and Fatale more then Cyber (but that's just also cause of the general acclaim) so if you're not reading these two, get the freakin trades! Cyber Force, I'm eagerly waiting to see if it plans on working its way into the current Top Cow continuity as well. So far, its reboot hasn't connected itself to Artifacts, Darkness or Witchblade yet. But at the same time, how can you go wrong on picking up 5 free comics? If you haven't gotten them yet since they cost nothing (granted by now they've been slapped with back issue prices on em I'm sure) then I don't know what to tell you.
Thief of Thieves is Kirkman goodness. That's all I need to say. LOL you like his writing, the book's for you.
GI Joe, also, is GI Joe. read the first issue of the relaunch. Same as it ever was. Will be getting to Special Missions also soon but expect the same.
Rest of them, I can't comment on yet. Flipped through the Trekker Omnibus and while I was sad to see a lot of it is still in B&W (since it came from DHP) its not going to stop me from enjoying the sic-fi goodness.
