I've been reading Kieron Gillen's Young Avengers comic since issue #1 and keep waiting for it to be as good as he thinks it is.
I read the hip monthly solicitation caption, and read Kieron's hip front page caption, and the editor's hip letter column caption, and I read the hip story, yet--
Yet, it all seems so square. It's like that entire comic derives its self-worth from Loki's hip fake-Norse dialog, Wiccan and Hulkling's hip gayness, and Kate Bishop's hip heterosexuality.
I refuse to accept that I'm "just too old" to get this. It's a decent comic--funny at times, clever at times--but mostly dud lame. Ectoplasm Mom? Even Rowan and Martin's Laugh-Ins would have groaned.
I just don't understand. Maybe because when I was 13 - 23 I didn't particularly desire to see the Avengers battling my parents? (I would have felt the Avengers to have bigger things on their plate).
Maybe I just am too old to understand (???).
