Jennifer Lopez and Steve Martin have joined Jim Parsons and Rihanna in the voice cast for DreamWorks Animation's Home (previously titled "Happy Smekday!"), according to TheWrap.

To be distributed by 20th Century Fox, the film is based on the critically-acclaimed book "The True Meaning of Smekday," by Adam Rex. When the galaxy's most annoyingly optimistic alien finds himself on the run from his own alien race, he's forced to team up with a fiercely stubborn teenage girl. Together they become the most unlikely fugitives ever to save the planet.

Reversing the recent trend of digital production migrating to Canada, Disney has decided to shutter Pixar Canada in Vancouver, eliminating about 100 jobs north of the border.

According to Canadian news site The Province, Disney spokesperson Barb Matheson said “A decision was made to refocus operations and resources under the one roof, Staff were just told today. Not great news, obviously.” That one facility is Pixar’s HQ in Emeryville, Calif.

EXCLUSIVE: The Angry Birds have just landed some very experienced handlers. Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly have signed on to co-direct the animated 3D pic based on the hugely popular game app from Rovio Entertainment. A 19-year Disney employee, Kaytis recently worked as the animation supervisor on the likes of Tangled and was an animator on Wreck-It Ralph, for which he also oversaw the film’s end credits.

Peanuts Worldwide, a joint venture between Charles M. Schulz Associates and Iconix Brand Group, has partnered with Normaal Animation and France Televisions to produce five hundred 90-second animated shorts adapted from Schulz’s classic comic strip Peanuts.

The development is part of a business strategy designed to build new global content for the Peanuts franchise that also includes the upcoming CG feature Blue Sky.

For TV viewers of a certain age, the shows produced by Lou Scheimer’s Filmation evoke fond nostalgia and happy Saturday morning memories. Scheimer, co-founder of the notorious TV animation schlock house Filmation and a key figure in TV animation history, passed away yesterday, just two days before his 85th birthday. The news comes from ToonSeum’s Facebook page. The cause and location of death remains unknown at this time.
