Oh shit! Burn! Heidi also complained about Rich's self-congratulations on breaking the story, which, let's be honest, is like the story of the old lady who nurses a snake back to health and then gets bitten by it. "I'm a snake, lady! It's what I do!"

Did you just call Heidi MacDonald an old lady?

I don't see a problem either, Ron Marz just pushing for a job at DC. :P

Oh no!

You know comic book journalism is in a bad state when people bitch that a site actually reported news. No no, we should all just publish press releases and approved interviews. Get in line and play nice or you get blacklisted. Please  Rich says he actually had an exec tell him to go with the story before running it and that's more than I would have done.

If it's bad that BC reported the story first, then it's DC's fault for sitting on news like that, not BCs fault for reporting it. I'm sure if someone was considering a job elsewhere a week ago, or within the next week or two, they are happy to know now, not tomorrow or next week or whenever DC was going to tell them.

As someone who has worked for a company before, I'd want to know about changes to my profession asap, not when the company decides we are important enough to know. And I'd take the news however I could get it, whether its from a website or Manager Bill at the water cooler whispering info to me.

As for the news vs. gossip item: Rich didn't run it as gossip IMO, he just didn't have DC officially confirm it b/c they didn't want him to run the story. He obviously had good info on it, and it's pretty stupid to argue that he was running gossip when they officially announced it within the hour of his article going live. (I'm not faulting site for not sourcing him and just running the official press release - that's what most of these sites do, play ball to stay in the game - but if they wanted to tell the whole story to readers, then their first article on the subject would have talked about the leak as well as the email).

People who already didn't like Rich Johnston will say he's a dick for the way he did it, old friends of Johnston's like Tom Spurgeon will rationalize that it was no big deal.

Still Rich should expect a freeze out from DC PR all the same.

-----------------------

According to various comics bloggers, DC will fire anyone who's been outed as leaking stuff to Rich.

BC was already froze out. When I was trying to find out what the deal was with us before the thing with zechs (because we knew something was up way before that meeting), we had people ask us 'your not with BC are you?' So they were pissing them off long before we were apparently.

Not even. Ron Marz has hated Rich Johnston for years over some stuff he felt was, not surprisingly, taken out of context and blown up on BC's front page, and for the thing over the kid with leukemia. He tweet-trashes Johnston every chance he gets.

Niether. Heidi is great.

I'm just saying that Rich Johnston bragging about reporting something first is like water being wet. It's his favorite thing to do.

Heidi's name doesn't ever come up unless it's people dissecting the aftermath of big news. Does she ever break or make any news or is she the comics equivalent of Anderson Cooper?

Flat out DC should have alerted their employees weeks ago about this move. Waiting until the day of the freaking press release is down right stupid.

Even if one of the employees leaked this why would it be such a bad thing? It's not the typical DC editorial drama bs and it's not related to stories they are publishing. It's big news but not any that really makes DC look bad.

DC not telling their employees and okaying the new story before they tell them? THAT makes them look bad.

I swear they like to make themselves look bad.

Who knows what goes into the actual move and who will and won't have to move? Maybe there'll be some people let go and that's still being sorted out. Maybe there'll be some promotions. Whatever reasons DC didn't announce sooner, if I were an employee I'd rather hear from them than some gossip mill.

One thing is certain, right now nobody is talking about the new Sandman issue out today.

Chances are there's an internal gossip mill that was already churning out that rumor but higher-ups wouldn't (or couldn't) confirm it. Uncle Rich just forced their hand. If he hadn't, others would have.

Wouldn't this count as a "Counter Reset"?

If he actually had the OK to run with it, the fault kinda falls with DC.

Or, maybe this beer is messing with my resoning...
