Damn, I don't read the series, but hearing he's retiring is sad.
"Why are you pointing your screwdrivers like that? They're scientific instruments, not water pistols."
"Oh, the pointing again! They're screwdrivers! What are you going to do? Assemble a cabinet at them?"
"Are you capable of speaking without flapping your hands about?"
""Timey" what? "Timey wimey"?"

It's been a fine series, but I've had the impression for a while that it's simply gone on too long. It's been unable to resist the 'tell one more story about these characters' temptation, so the work taken as a whole feels long and meandering.

Obviously, I think it's less good that he's retiring; I'd rather see him move on to something new.

Wonder what this means for Vertigo?

On the positive side, this means Buckingham would be available to finish up Neil Gaiman's Miracleman story.

Fantastic to see. Ending on a high.

Wish others would do the same.

Dude the book has been better than ever. Did you read the Toyland arc? That's a top 3 arc on the book. The Snow arc recently was amazing with the most recent issue being fucking heartbreakingly awesome.

It felt like the book was picking up major steam after the Mr. Dark arc.

Good riddance. It should happened ages ago (when Willingham's disgusting politics became public knowledge), but I suppose it's been holding Vertigo up for the last few years, and now that Sandman is back, its not needed. Even the sales of the trades have drifted off. I suspect his heart hasn't been in it for a while, especially since Disney stole the concept lock stock and barrel and made a goofy tv series with it. To which I can only laugh my balls off.

Sandman is just a mini.

And I could not care less about Willingham's politics. They have no bearing on the book.

I can't speak for TPB sales, but the latest one outsold everything else in January when it came out.

although I'll agree 134 was an almost perfect book, Cubs in Toyland almost made me drop the book.
