Yup. Even the New Warriors back in the day was Marvel trying to PC it up.
(Like a rich inner city black kid is going to hang with trailer trash or hillbillies...)

But again, if a major point of the story is the character's attempt to be a teenager, a superhero, and a Muslim, why is it a bad thing to put that fact front and center?

I forget Carol is almost Daredevil level of bad luck sometimes.

I didn't read Ms. Marvel or Captain Marvel but does anybody brings up the Marcus thing? Or even the Alcoholism?

I can't remember the last time she was referenced to having a drinking problem. Maybe 1 alcoholic on the Avengers is enough?

I don't know if I would use the term "PC" to describe the synopsis of the book as "political correct" more describes to words or actions to appease a group of "minorities".

But yes, they're totally selling it as a teenage, female Muslim character. This I have no problem with as long as it's well written and not preachy. It's a great topic to be explored and I would love to see this character's reactions and interpretations of other characters in the Marvel Universe; especially the mutant characters.

I have no clue what percent of the comic book collecting community practices Islam but it can't be that much to support a title on its own. So the book is going to have to have a broader appeal.

If there is one drawback I may have, it would be my dislike of Carol Danvers. But she is a popular character and an Avenger, so it makes since having a young character look up to her. I'll check it out.

I distrust WASPs who convert to stuff in college, personally, they are usually a real drag to talk to.

I didn't appreciate Air at all (hated it), and I only skimmed Cairo. Her writing is not for me.

IIRC, you don't like Kelly Sue DeConnick, either.
I bet you hate Gail Simone's work, too.

Ergo, you are a Punchy-level misogynist.

Her Ms Marvel book looked too ugly to even attempt to read.

I liked her 3 or 4 issues of Supergirl too! Pretty Deadly was OK.

Anyways, just saw that ADRIAN ALPHONA is drawing this, which changes everything, I am in.

The editor who pitched it is also Muslim. Good for them for trying something new.

The trick is to make sure they don't get preachy.

When you put it like that it’s not so bad. The sketch made me think of the guy in the Galaxy Trio. I always thought he looked goofy when he made his hands big. :D
