Daisy Johnson, a.k.a. "Quake" is more of a junior Nick Fury than "Nick Fury Jr." She worked with him and a handful of heroes during Fury's Secret War and quickly moved up the ranks of SHIELD. Aside from Fury & Black Widow, she's the only known agent with Level 10 clearance. She was one of Fury's "Secret Warriors" when Fury went underground and was even an Avenger for a little while.
Like Fury & Tony Stark, she's been the leader of SHIELD. Like Stark, she's had to erase some of her own memories. Like Fury, she's no longer in charge of SHIELD. In "Secret Avengers", she's been "indefinitely suspended" over her handling of a specific situation (attempted assassination of a foreign power). She knows something big's coming. But she's not going to let a suspension stop her.
Which is where our story begins....
Her first stop once she's on the run? Eden Fesi, a.k.a Manifold. He's an Avenger and, more importantly, he's a teleporter with unlimited potential. They were Secret Warriors together, she looked after him when he fell into a coma and, in turn, he helped her during that memory erasing ordeal.
From there, their next stop is India to pick up her next recruit, a technopath called Black Box. Maimed by Sabretooth, Bashur was believed deceased until his recent encounters with Deadpool. He's been on both sides of the law and never too far from SHIELD observers/bagmen. They need him as tech support for Johnson and to help contact their next recruit... Blue Marvel!
Blue Marvel has been around the Marvel Universe since the 60's, but was forced into retirement and now focuses mainly on his research. Johnson wants to recruit him, not only for the power that he brings to the table (even if he only participates in the occasional mission), not only for the use of his secret underwater base in the Mariana Trench but also for assistance with the next recruit, the psychic who initially warned former Director Johnson of the impending doom... Madame Web!
Julia Carpenter "inherited" the precognative abilities of the former Madame Web upon her death. Even though she's now blind, she still has her Spider-Woman powers and can handle herself in a fight. She foresaw an upcoming crisis and, knowing that Spider-Man wasn't the one to go to for this problem, she contacted the person she saw in her visions. She's been contacting the director for months now, helping Johnson understand the threat that's on the horizon and giving her time to plan.
While Carpenter has limited knowledge of the future, she had no idea Johnson's next step was to recruit the Arabian Knight. When SHIELD compromised, Johnson has had to look outside for help. Hashim has a uniform made from an unravelled magic carpet that allows him to fly, a magic sword and a great deal of military knowledge. And he surprisingly gets along well with Johnson's next recruit.... Amadeus Cho!
Cho, often considered "the seventh smartest person in the world", is capable of completing complex equations in the blink of an eye. While Black Box is capable of hacking into and/or communicating with computer systems, Cho can calculate the necessary equations to meet their goals. He's known for being quite dedicated if he believes in a cause. Like the time he hacked the SHIELD Helicarrier. While he's used Pym's helmet in the past and currently relies on a variety of BannerTech devices, he's never gone the full armor route, unlike... Stingray!
Walter Newell, a.k.a. Stingray, is an accomplished oceanographer. He also wears the Stingray armor, which has helped him both in ocean exploration and his duties as an Avenger. He sided with Captain America against the SHRA, was later pardoned and taught at Camp Hammond. He's not one of Johnson's initial recruits, as he was conferring with Brashear on a unrelated matter (or IS it unrelated), but was quickly asked to join.
Sebastian Druid, the son of former Avenger Anthony Druid, is another former teammate of Daisy Johnson. He's a wizard-in-training who has already demonstrated a variety of abilities, such as the creation of a magic bullet for a very specific purpose, the ability to corrode metal almost instantaneously and the ability to create forcefields. He's been training with John Garrett, an associate of Nick Fury, and is an accomplished pilot and sniper.
The self-styled "Master of the World" has been around for thousands of years, has enhanced strength, endurance, speed & reflexes, possesses a powerful suit of armor & a sharp intellect and is regularly underestimated and believed dead.
His mission, of course, is to take over the world. To assist him, he plans to recruit other deadly individuals, criminals who are often overlooked (and won't be missed) and who, with the proper motivation and assistance, can become deadlier than anyone expects.
His first choice to help him with his plan... Arnim Zola! Zola has been cloning and performing genetic experiments (like creating Doughboy) for decades. The Master wants Zola to create giant world ending monsters and a biological security system, among other things.
His next recruit...Mystique! With her cunning and her uncanny ability to impersonate anyone, Raven Darkholme is a welcome asset (as long as she follows orders). She can undermine authority and sow confusion behind enemy lines. She also relies on her "feminine wiles" where other strategies may fall short.
The Master was able to find a "backed up" copy of Machinesmith, one that was not "neutered" by Iron Man erasing his memories. Saxon has worked for the Red Skull and has previously engineered conflicts between countries so that he could get his hands on the US missle command codes. With the sheer number of SHIELD helicarriers in rotation and LMDs/Iron Man armors in use, Machinesmith is a huge asset to the Master.
