One day, there will be a mathematical formula to identify The Doctors.

Like the Shalka Doctor who is Doctor 8.9.

Both The Tardis Data Core and Wikipedia ARE written by fans for the most part, so you can't just dismiss them as if they don't matter. Do you really think that most of the fan base will call Tennant the Eleventh Doctor when all of BBC's DVDs call him the Tenth Doctor? I just don't see it happening as, as I said, it's not going to be a battle most people are going to see being worth fighting.

I've already made you spend how long arguing about it?

:D

Mission accomplished.

9th it is.

The War Doctor came after the 8th Doctor. That makes him the 9th Doctor. Seems clear to me. :D

Not to me considering that Eccleston is still referred to as the Ninth Doctor in a lot of places. :smt102

We're hardcore fans though and most of the fan base is not made up of hardcores like us. Most are casual fans who will simply go along with the names on the DVDs that they buy.

Could it be because that before these episodes the W.D. didn't exist in the Who-verse?

Oh that's definitely the reason, but knowing the reason doesn't change the lack of clarity created in calling the War Doctor the Ninth Doctor.

The Doctor has had 13 incarnations. Hurt was the 9th. He regenerated from McGann, and regenerated into Eccleston.

That makes him the 9th Doctor by every definition of the word.

That's fine, you have a perfect right to call him that. My problem is that you seem to be saying that I'm wrong to want to go along with what the BBC has set up as the official names. I feel I have a perfect right to choose to do that even though you seem to think I don't.

Eccleston is still officially the Ninth Doctor, Tennant is still officially the Tenth Doctor and Smith is still officially the Eleventh Doctor. Chronologically in the real world Hurt is actually the twelveth Doctor, but is called the War Doctor instead. Will Capaldi be called officially the Thirteenth Doctor? Of that I have no doubt, but that's not going to change what Eccleston to Smith to Hurt are officially.

Find anywhere I said that. I started out saying I'm calling him the 9th, and you jumped in and started arguing the fact, so I defended it.

This is the nerdiest argument I've ever had.

It is pretty nerdy and I had no problem with what you're saying until you said this:

This comes across pretty clear to me that you're completely dismissing the way I want to define the War Doctor. If that's not what you're saying I apologize, but that how it came across to me.

No, I just know how to count to 9, and if something comes after 8, I am 100% sure it is 9. :P

OK, then I take back to accusation.

I know how to count to twelve and if Smith is the eleventh actor to play the Doctor, then I'm certain that Hurt is the 12th. :P
