Review Group Week 160 - SUPERMAN: WORLD OF NEW KRYPTON #1

Postby ****** » Wed Mar 04, 2009 9:22 am

So it's already begun, has it? I give the Review Group it's first bit of excitement in over a year and the usurpers are already circling like vultures. It's cool though, I understand. It's only natural that as soon as Yoni saw his position as greatest Review Group Leader ever slipping away that he would react like this. I'm sure eventually he'll embrace the Review Group's new era of awesomeness.

Again, if you've been in the group a while and you didn't read the revised OP already, please do so this week. I made a few updates to Sire's draconian rules.

If you're new and haven't participated in the group before, feel free to jump in. You don't have to post reviews to participate in the thread, but if you do post a review I'll add you to the members list. ;)

Superman: World of New Krypton #1
as selected by Mr. Batman
Written by James Robinson and Greg Rucka
Art by Pete Woods
Cover by Gary Frank
Variant cover by Ladrönn

Following the events of the "New Krypton" crossover, the Man of Steel has had to embrace his past to ensure humanity's future. And while a devastating armed conflict with Earth may have been averted, keeping the peace will be Superman's greatest challenge yet.

Guardians of the Galaxy #11
as selected by SuperginraiX
Writers: Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning
Pencils: Wesley Craig
Colors: Wil Quintana

THE STORY: If Captain Marvel is no more, how is he here? With War of Kings about to explode across the galaxy, two of the Guardians face death itself! Drax and Quasar journey beyond the veil of life in a desperate quest to find Moondragon. But what is waiting for them on the other side, and will it ever let them return? It’s a double shot of cosmic horror – that plants the seeds for where GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is heading next!

If you would like to join the group it's easy. Just post a review and I'll add you to the member's list. As long as you stay active, eventually it will be your turn to make a pick.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. Going forward, there is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make with the new format is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadshee of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.

Image
Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.

Image
If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays.

I know we don't have to check in as often with our excuse for not picking up last week's comic but I'm giving mine anyway. :)

I actually forgot to pick it up with my regular comics (and since it was a HUGE week, it doesn't surprise me). I went back for it on Sunday and it was sold out. So, no Runaways review unless they get a few more random copies in this week.

It helps me keep track of things when you do post an update though, so thanks.

I'll be giving this week a miss. Triangle books scare me and I've zero interest in reading a book where Superman is just one super powered Kryptonian of many. Superman is a boring enough character, surrounding him with a bunch of similar characters just compunds his lameness.

Okay, I've fixed all of the broken nurama links. Anyone just dying to go back and read those Batgirl reviews can now do so.

Nice avatar upgrade, Punch. I was tempted to switch to Walker after reading the second Powers HC as well.

I'm reading through Vol. 2, have read the Little Deaths story so far, will read Supergroup today.

Have you read this volume's letter column highlights? It's hilarious, I literally LOLed for 5 minutes at one email.

I just skimmed them because I was ready to move on to something else. I might go back and read them later.
