Who or WHAT is the Earth-2 Batman ? He acts human but seems to have increased strength, and possibly bullet-proof or a kevlar-reinforced cowl :P

I am guessing he got some meta human abilities at some point which would explain the super-strength.

Ha. It was kind of obvious that Batman would release Aquawoman from the stasis-chamber but I was not expecting Jimmy Olsen.
Nor what he does to the Joker

He also doesn't mind using guns, apparently.

Yeah, my comment and the last quoted comment are definitely related.

We don't know yet what Joker did to be put in stasis (other than the standard crimes) but apparently it was severe enough that this Batman also took it personally. Hmmm.

That was one hell of a book. Taylor isn't missing a beat on this one!

I take it that this isn't Bruce but Thomas Wayne?

I'm a little late to this party...

There was a leaked toy list that had Earth 2 Batman listed as "Thomas Wayne." James Robinson confirmed this was his identity.

Not clear if it's Bruce's father or brother.

Boo urns, I was hoping for Rex Tyler hopped up on Miraclo or maybe Aquaman making his debut...

What I can't wrap my head around is how did TW get super powers? Is it part of the resurrection process, like he's the Spirit of Vengeance now or something?

Some folks have speculated that it has something to do with the Spektre, but it's hard to say how it specifically worked. It could be Thomas Wayne resurrected to seek vengeance for the death of his son, but we just don't have enough info to say. The apparent resurrection ability is a bit like the modern version of the Crimson Avenger (who was similar to the Spektre in terms of motivation), but that does not account for his strength.

It would be interesting to tie him into Flashpoint Thomas Wayne, since the Earth 2 character is obviously based on that one. That might explain the "Bruce...?" line, since Bruce was never Batman in that universe. I don't see how to make it work aside from saying that he's just detritus from the former universe and somehow gained superpowers from being cast into the timestream (hey, it worked for the Samaritan!).

Here's a theory floating around at another site. Back in Earth 2 #0, it was revealed that there were originally 8 Wonders:
1) Superman
2) Wonder Woman
3) Batman
4) Supergirl
5) Robin
6) Catwoman
7) the intentionally unnamed and unseen hero
8 ) Terry Sloan/Mister 8

What if the new Batman was previously the mysterious 7th Wonder ? It might explain how he debuted fully trained and armed, plus all his inside knowledge of the fallen Wonders and of who specifically was in the stasis chambers.
That also brings up if Wonder #7 was Thomas Wayne, assuming that Taylor hasn't decided to change that entire thing after Robinson confirmed the spoiler.

Good issue overall.

Brutaal, his other two comrades and now an army of parademons. It's going to be fun to see this series' heroes deal with all of this.

To add further speculation, over at Comicosity they interviewed Taylor. When asked "where is Hourman", Taylor's response was "Who says he hasn’t appeared already…?”

Called it, changed mind, now disregarding toy spoilers and calling it again!

Hourman was a beast in the JSA files and this Batman is 'uge!
