Jeff Lemire's Green Arrow Series (Potential Spoilers)

Postby Grayson » Sat Jan 11, 2014 6:31 pm

Considering how great this series has been ever since Jeff Lemire took over with issue #17, I am a little surprised that there hasn't been more discussion about it. I'm not going to lie, Green Arrow is easily my favorite current DC series and it's up there with my favorite monthly books right now. The way that Lemire has reinvented the character and the direction of the series has been nothing short of phenomenal and Andrea Sorrentino's art is truly breathtaking.

Who else is reading this book? What are your thoughts about the current direction?

I'd like it a lot more if they hadn't gone all out with this totem bullshit. Subra to it out and I'd say it'd easily be my one if my top five books.

But it's being beaten into oblivion so far almost as much as JMS's take on it did and I can't be bothered with it anymore.

I don't know fieldy, I feel like the totem stuff that Lemire has been introducing has been pretty interesting, especially when all of the pieces began to fall into place in this last issue. It was revealed thatRobert Queen is still alive and that he orchestrated everything from the shipwreck, to his son washing ashore on the island, his torture, and becoming the Green Arrow!

Maybe I am a little bias since I just binge watched the entire first season of Arrow but I feel like the comic and the show work well as both a contrast and a companion to each other.

I hate this all "you were meant to wield the bow" and all the overload of spiritual bullshit. If it was small does maybe but it's just draining me and I was expecting something a bit more grounded once I saw Lemire's first issue and the parallels with the Arrow TV series.

Remove the totem stuff and it'd be great IMO, but it's as wanted as a heroin overdose.

Yeah it's pretty great. Jeff Lemire is one of the top writers in comicdom right now. I'll read anything he puts out.

I would expect that after the current arc is over with, Ollie will be returning home to deal with whatever is happening with Richard Dragon and Diggle. So a more grounded story is probably on the horizon.

Love this book, definitely one of the best of the DCU right now for sure. I too, like Grayson think it goes along very well with the Arrow TV series, which is fantastic as well. Loved the reveal at the end of the current issue, that was awesome!

Its pretty good...but only compared to the rest of the NuDCU. This is NOT Green Arrow, it's a cheap copy. I miss the Ollie I know and love.

Had a chance to sit down and read issue 28 last night. I was worried about the pace that this issue would take after the dramatic reveal from the end of the last issue but it looks like I was worried for nothing. Lemire didn't let up at all. Ollie is obviously in denial about the identity of the man claiming to be his father while they are still under attack from the Shield Clan. It seems like Ollie begins to come to terms with the truth but that doesn't mean that he is willing to forgive and forget. While this is happening on the island, Lacroix attends a gathering with other members of the Outsiders including the Spear Clan's Golgotha and the Fist Clan's Onyx. Golgotha chastises Lacroix, even going to far as to call him out for not being an actual member of the Outsiders since he is not in possession of his clan's artifact. Lacroix turns the tables on Golgotha however, as he launches into a monologue that ends with Onyx stepping up and defending Lacroix from Golgotha's attack, dramatically shifting the power structure of the Outsiders it would seem.

Meanwhile, Diggle returns to introduce himself and recruit Henry and Naomi in order to help him deal with everything that is happening in the city in Green Arrow's absence.

This series just continues to be one of, if not the best series currently being published by DC.

i'm a couple issues behind (reading it on Comixology post-$1 discount), but i'm liking it so far. it was better when it was called Miler's Daredevil and Bru/Fraction's Immortal Iron Fist, but it's good.

Basically, what AT said. DC doesn't publish books about any of its old-school characters any more - it has a bunch of new characters with familiar names. Some of the books are pretty good (Wonder Woman, Green Arrow) and some are terrible (Teen Titans, Superman) but those of us who would like a choice between the two approaches, a la Marvel's Ultimate line, are shit out of luck.
