The website appears to be jealous of the attention Rich Johnston is getting from their old girlfriend, DC Comics.
ComicBookResources, long considered the go-to website for major comic book publishers looking to publish thinly veiled press releases as exclusive interviews and sneak peaks, took a major shot at upstart competitor Bleeding Cool today after Bleeding Cool scored an exclusive first look at Geoff Johns and John Romita Jr.'s Superman from DC Comics. Calling Bleeding Cool's news a "rumor," CBR begrudgingly admitted that it was backed up by "a piece of art and several lo-res screenshots featuring Johns and Romita." CBR reportedly reached out to DC, most likely via a passive-aggressive text message, but DC is like, totally ignoring their calls.
If Bleeding Cool really has gotten in bed with major comic book publishers, it serves as a huge blow to CBR, as Bleeding Cool is a website people actually enjoy reading, as opposed to one they go to because it has the best access to top industry talent. Bleeding Cool mogul Rich Johnston wrote his Lying in the Gutters column at CBR for years before starting Bleeding Cool, adding insult to injury. Frankly, we're surprised CBR didn't run their article with a traffic light image, a former mainstay of Lying in the Gutters.
At press time, CBR was pouting in its room with the shades drawn and the lights off, listening to Morrissey, imagining Johnston and Dan Didio playfully tasting bites of each others food at a dimly lit Italian restaurant.
