= Teth Sabah Nur (The Black Apocalypse)
Born to a wealthy family in the African country of Kahndaq, the man who would one day be known as Teth Sabah Nur was cast aside by his parents for his unsual skin tone. However, the Wizard Shazam, who had been posing as a high priest took notice of the child's unnatural appearance and secretly took the child to the Rock of Eternity where he raised him as if he were his own son. For years, Shazam kept the child's true nature from him a secret that would ultimately be his greatest mistake. When the boy became a man, the Earth was visited by the godlike Celestials. Fearing what type of influence these beings would have over the Earth, Shazam was forced to name Teth Sabah Nur as his champion, endowing him with the powers of the gods, in a desperate attempt to repeal the Celestial invasion. Unfortunately for Shazam and the people of Earth, the Celestials taught Teth the truth about his origins, that he is a mutant, the first member of a race of beings that will naturally evolve from humanity and will one day become the dominate race. The Celestials enhanced Teth even further than Shazam could even dream and he turned on the wizard, becoming the fearsome Black Apocalypse. Using the full might of his power, Shazam was forced to banish the Celestials and the man he had raised from the Earth, knowing full well that they would one day return…

= The Sinister Hand (Black Apocalypse's Minister of Death)
As a young man living in Victorian England, the son of a whole who owned and operated a funeral home, Nathaniel Hand had an eerie fascination with death. Over time, this fascination grew into obsession that led Nathaniel to begin performing bizarre experiments upon the corpses that were brought to his family's business. When his father discovered his son's "hobby" his kicked him out of their home. Distraught, Nathaniel wandered the Whitechapel district of London where he began murdering local prostitutes to feed his growing, insatiable desires. And then, one day he simply disappeared. While his acts became an urban legend, something far more sinister was happening to Nathaniel himself. Abducted by the Teth Sabah Nur, who had returned to Earth and now calling himself Black Apocalypse, Nathaniel found himself becoming the first human that Apocalypse would raise to his level of genetic superiority. Tasked by the Celestials themselves to become a guardian of evolution, Apocalypse needed to begin recruiting ministers to stand beside him and spread their message to the world. When the horrors of Black Apocalypse's uplifting had finally subsided, Nathaniel discovered that he now literally held the power of life and death within the palm of his hand. For over a century, Nathaniel would serve the whim of his new master but he had goals of his own and woe is the man who meets his Sinister Hand...

= Brother Stryfe (Black Apocalypse's Minister of War)
Taken to the distant future so that he could be saved from a techno organic virus that he was infected with by Black Apocalypse in the present day, Nathaniel Summers was secretly cloned by the Askani to act as a fail safe in the likelihood that his condition was too advanced to be treated. While their treatment of Nathan proved to be successful, the Church of Blood infiltrated their stronghold and abducted the clone. The clone was named "Brother Stryfe" by the Church and was raised to value their traditions above all else until the emergence of his mutant powers. All at once, Brother Stryfe reached out into the minds of the other Church members and discovered the horrific truths of his own origin. He was not the clone of Nathaniel Summers but rather Nathaniel Summers himself who had been kidnapped by the Askani so that they could clone him repeatedly in order to build an army strong enough to defeat the Black Apocalypse. Driven beyond sanity, Brother Stryfe took control of the Church of Blood and ordered them to lay waste to the Askani and their clone army. In the end the Askani forces and the Church were decimated but the original clone, Cable, had escaped to the past. Carelessly following him into the time stream, Stryfe found himself hundreds of years in the past, our present, where he sought out Black Apocalypse hoping to defeat him himself and use his forces to hunt down and destroy his "brother" and the parents he now blamed for not attempting to rescue him. Instead, he was defeated by immortal mutant and subjected to his cruel uplifting procedures. Turned into his Minister of War, Brother Stryfe is forced to serve the very being his life had been stolen to destroy.
= Spiraling Ivy (Black Apocalypse's Minister of Pestilence)
Rita Isley was an up and coming star in the field of botanical biochemistry, her work leading to some promising advances that could help millions of people across the world. At the peak of her research, she befriended and developed feelings for a mysterious man who only identified himself as Longshot and claimed to be from another dimension known as the Mojoverse. Unfortunately for her, his claims turned out to be true when a horrible woman with six arms and green skin abducted them both and transported them to the very heart of this Mojoverse a horrible place that allowed a tyrannical dictator to rule over his subjects by keeping them placated through endless hours of mindless entertainment. Separated from Longshot, Rita was imprisoned and subjected to years of mental and physical torture. Her body was repeatedly injected with bastardized versions of her own botanical formulas, she grew extra arms, her skin turned green, and she began producing the same toxins and poisons that plants on Earth would use to protect themselves. Her life was stolen from her and replaced with a sick, twisted effigy. In the end, she was sent into the past to recover Longshot and herself from Earth, revealing that she had been the one who had abducted herself and began her long, cruel torment. The process drove her completely mad and she was finally handed over to the mastermind of her suffering, her new master, the Black Apocalypse.
