![]() Due to character limitations in the thread title, it's just..... Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu #1 ![]()
Digital copy can be found here. Ze rules: Post your review in the forum thread or in the comments section here on the front page. Review as often or as little as you like. Once you've posted 5 reviews, you will be awarded 1 pick. You can post 5 reviews, right? That's a totally achievable goal and with day and date digital releases becoming the standard, it shouldn't matter if your shop ordered enough copies of this weeks comic or not. When multiple Review Groupers have posted 5 (or more) qualifying reviews, they will be awarded their pick in the order that they qualified. What constitutes a qualifying review? Any review posted (with a score on a scale from 0-10, that's right 0!) within 1 calendar month of the thread going live. Reviews are to be at least 5 sentences long. It shows that a) you have at least read this week's pick and b) you have some unique insight into the comic. Reviews posted while waiting in line for your pick will be applied to your next pick. I'll be keeping track of everyone's progress with the newly christened Spreadsheet of Fantastic (RIP, Spreadsheet of Doom) and reporting the results in the Current Members list in the weekly OP. When it's your turn to make a pick, I will PM you. If you do not respond to me by Midnight EST the following Sunday, you will lose your pick and I will start a poll to determine that week's selection. Any week in which we do not have a Review Grouper with 5 qualifying picks, we will determine the week's comic via poll. If it's your week to pick, remember to keep it under $3.99. Here's the quick-and-dirty on this book: Master of Kung Fu stories were at their height in the mid-to-late 70s. So for what the writer, Mike Benson, was referencing as the source material...man. See, I read that stuff, back in the day. And even I know that you have to explain what's happening. I think -- my opinion -- is that this book was so eager to have the shock death, it didn't give a damn about explaining why anybody else should care. This was a first issue that was begging for exposition. Flashbacks. You could've killed the character off in the middle or end of issue 2, and it would've mattered more. This book was so...not...it just wasn't a good read. I wish it was, because I was totally looking forward to it. But I sincerely doubt I'll pick up the rest of it. Story: 3 Art: 5 Overall: 4 of 10 |

It sucked in so many ways I can't even remember all of them. |

That's discouraging because I have been looking forward to this book for a while now. Shang Chi is one of my favorite characters and I was hoping they could recapture some of his earlier glory. I am going to be picking it up tomorrow. |

Hopefully you enjoy it more than I did. The story isn't horrible but the art, Godz, it just fails in every way. At least IMO. |

There's Batman '66 #11. The last issue that was reviewed of that series was #9, so I think there's been enough of a gap that it's not going to be a bad thing to review another issue. MPH #1 from Image also comes out this week. |

Then when you factor in the fact Marvel has had to distance itself from any reference to half the stuff that made Shang as cool as he was in the 70s (Fu Manchu, Sir Neyland Smith, etc), and this particular book probably never had a chance. |

Yeah, I didn't like the work he did on Annihilators either. Going into this series I was hoping that his art style would be better suited to this type of story. I have to admit that I was wrong in that hope. |
