Marvel Comics fans are gearing up for their ride of their lives this September when Marvel's four-part weekly mini-series, The Temporary Hiatus of Wolverine, hits shelves. Written by Charles Soule with art by McNiven, Jay Leisten, and Justin Ponsor, the series will see Marvel's top mutant "die" as an excuse to put out "weapon-etched holofoil" variant covers to compete with DC's 3Dnado sequel that month. While The Outhouse is glad to get a fucking break from Wolverine, even if we'll be lucky if it lasts until the end of the year, we feel we should point out that, in CBR's article about this, there's a quote by Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso where Alonso can't even be bothered to pretend like this has a snowball's chance in hell of being permanent:

We did our gut-check way back when Paul Cornell pitched the idea of taking away Logan's healing factor. Ever since we approved that plot-point, we've been walking the slow road to acceptance. We're about to take Logan off the board. That's a move that's going to have line-wide ramifications -- from the solo series to any team or series he's currently a part of. But we're ready for it. [X-Men Group Editor] Mike [Marts] has a plan, and we think there will be lots of reasons to be excited this September and beyond.

That's right, the Marvel Universe will change forever this September when Wolverine is temporarily "taken off the board." How do any of these people take themselves seriously? Alonso, Marvel, CBR, us, the readers... To make matters worse, all four issues of The Temporary Hiatus of Wolverine, along with ten other comics published by Marvel that month, are part of a "testing-of-the-waters" of a new $4.99 regular price point for comics.

Oh yeah. It's coming. And we're all complicit in this idiocy. This is the short-sighted, gimmick-driven, cash-grabbing industry we deserve.

The Temporary Hiatus of Wolverine hits stores in September. Here's the covers. Ignore the yellow "CBR EXCLUSIVE" watermarks at the bottom. That dripped all over these accidentally while CBR was "servicing" Marvel for the reward of exclusive access to this glorified press release.

"HHGGGGGLLLLMMMPPPPPHHHHHH," said CBR Managing Editor Albert Ching when asked for comment.

His character will only appear in seven or eight Marvel books while he is dead.

Sadly, it will likely be a top seller.

Gah... why anyone in their right mind would bother with this is beyond me. Don't get me wrong, I do actually like what I've seen of Soule's writing, but I really don't see how this could possibly be interesting, let alone worth paying $20 for.

Damn this sucks. In all the blather about Wolverine dying  , I guess I never realized that Charles Soule was writing it. Which sucks because, no matter how awesome he is, there is no way I'd pay for a Wolverine comic.
