No it isn't.
If I see it, it's there, we each bring our own meaning to a text.

The text is there to convey a meaning that the author intended. In this case its ass rape jokes, cussing, and other crap.

Ah, the intentionalist view.
You're wrong.

I'm a big fan. It's not for everyone, but it's good stuff.
It reminds me of South Park in a lot of ways. On the surface it's just a bunch of juvenile gross out gags, violence, and cursing. But dig a little deeper and there's something quite a bit deeper below the surface. It's got a great ongoing storyline, some good ideas, and some amazing characters.
I do understand why people can't always get into it.

The Squid wrote:Yep. Ennis wrote it like a kid who just learned to cuss and figured if he put a lot of fucks and a lot of offensive goofy perverted crap in there it would be "cutting edge mature" material. No it was just shit. Couple decent ideas here and there but overall it sucked.
Mediocre art too.
Aaron once again demonstrates his terrible taste

Exactly, The OP doesn't seem willing to dig deeper.

I think you could read the first two trades, not like it at all and come to that opinion. It's not a book for everyone and if you focus on the surface level, that's the opinion you'd probably come away with.

As I said, there were some decent concepts and the idea had merit. A cool premise cannot overcome shitty delivery.

I read it when it came out for a little over 30 issues.
