I'm a big fan. It's not for everyone, but it's good stuff.

It reminds me of South Park in a lot of ways. On the surface it's just a bunch of juvenile gross out gags, violence, and cursing. But dig a little deeper and there's something quite a bit deeper below the surface. It's got a great ongoing storyline, some good ideas, and some amazing characters.

I do understand why people can't always get into it.

Yep. Ennis wrote it like a kid who just learned to cuss and figured if he put a lot of fucks and a lot of offensive goofy perverted crap in there it would be "cutting edge mature" material. No it was just shit. Couple decent ideas here and there but overall it sucked.

I think you could read the first two trades, not like it at all and come to that opinion. It's not a book for everyone and if you focus on the surface level, that's the opinion you'd probably come away with.

The overall idea was decent and had potential, but he hack shock writing execution of it was where it fell apart.

As I said, there were some decent concepts and the idea had merit. A cool premise cannot overcome shitty delivery.
