I think the "No Killer Bees" thing is just because Marvel doesn't want to lose Nicholas Cage as a reader.

Yes, recently. As in, it took them bloody decades and only because people made enough of a stink about it for about as long. Megacorporations/corporations chase the almighty dollar, that is their sole purpose for functioning and it's guaranteed that if they can get over on someone, they will. You only need to look at how corporations have invaded government to get their way without check for that. Further, bad PR? The fanbases of these corporations, be it Apple, Marvel, DC or WB, the company knows that their fanbases will back them up throughout any actual or perceived wrongdoing and take their side on the matter.
