Finally watched Solo. A very enjoyable and fun film. Not much in the way of SW story development and I wasn’t completely drawn in until the end. Darth Maul was interesting. They left lots of material with him and Kiera for possible sequels/prequels whatever they are. I liked it and would watch it again.

Ghosts of Mars (2001) - Here's another movie I remember hating when it originally came out. This time I viewed it as more tongue-in-cheek than a serious horror movie. There was definitely some interesting casting here. There's a washed up Pam Grier, a fresh faced Jason Statham before The Transporter, Natasha Henstridge still looking for her next big thing six years after Species, and a horribly miscast Ice Cube that couldn't act to save his life. What else do we have? Lots of explosions and bodies being launched through the air, comically. An over-the-top metal soundtrack every time action kicks in. The leader of the martians also looked like he stepped out of a black metal band, face makeup and all. I thought they could have done a lot more with how when you kill a ghost they can jump into another living person. Still not great.

The Forest of the Lost Souls - I was in the mood for some black and white Portugese art house horror. Two strangers meet in a forest that is well known for suicides. They get to know each other and soon learn that one of them is there to kill other people. Then the movie switches gears into a sort of slow slasher, where the family of the person killed in the forest is stalked. It's a beautiful looking movie and has a groovy score. The minimalist approach to plot and dialogue might scare some people off.

I'm tempted to give it a 5, but something seemed a bit off with the slasher elements. 4 1/2

These Portugese sadly don't care about English.
