Review Group Week 164 - FLASH: REBIRTH #1

Postby ****** » Wed Apr 01, 2009 9:09 am

Image
You know what the best day to tell a good joke is? Any day that isn't April Fool's Day. Anyone with a calendar is expecting it so why bother? I could have done a thing where I claim to be stepping down to let Punchy take over the group again, or even worse Sire, but who'd really believe that anyway? Yoni was pretty decent at it and I wouldn't even step aside for him.

Anywho, fuck you if you don't like the word 'anywho', this is our first week ever to decide what we're reading by using a poll! If this week's book sucks the blame can be distributed evenly across the 12 of us who voted for Rebirth. I'm looking forward to 10 years from now when we get Wally West and Kyle Rayner Rebirth series to put the real Flash and Green Lanterns back into their rightful places in the DCU.

Flash: Rebirth #1
As selected by amlah6 via pollWritten by Geoff Johns
Art by Ethan Van Sciver

Through the decades, many heroes have taken the mantle of The Flash, but they all ride the lightning that crackles in the wake of the greatest hero the DC Universe has ever known, the man who sacrificed himself to save the Multiverse: Barry Allen!

Following the events of FINAL CRISIS, Barry has beaten death and returned to a fast-paced world that a man out of time wouldn't recognize. Or is it a world that is only just now catching up? All the running he's done before was just a warmup for the high-speed race that he and every other Flash must now run, because even though one speedster might have beaten death, another has just turned up dead! From Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver, the visionaries responsible for the blockbuster GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH and THE SINESTRO CORPS WAR, comes the start of an explosive and jaw-dropping epic that will reintroduce to the modern age the hero who single-handedly birthed the Silver Age of comics! DC history will be made, and the Flash legacy will be redefined!

DC Universe | 40pg. | Color | $3.99 US

Wolverine: Weapon X #1
as selected by young neilWRITER: JASON AARON
PENCILS: RON GARNEY

THE STORY:
“THE ADAMANTIUM MEN” Part 1 (of 5)
In the jungles of Colombia, people are turning up dead, whole villages brutally slaughtered by a team of soldiers who move through the shadows like ghosts. On the streets of San Francisco, Logan learns that the files from the old Weapon X program, the blueprints for building Adamantium-laced super soldiers like himself, have fallen into the hands of the evil corporation, Roxxon. Once again, it seems, someone is looking to build the perfect killing machine. That means it's time for Wolverine to step in, and remind them that someone already did. Plus 8 pages of Director's Cut Extras!

If you would like to join the group it's easy. Just post a review and I'll add you to the member's list. As long as you stay active, eventually it will be your turn to make a pick.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. Going forward, there is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make with the new format is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadshee of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.

Image
Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.

Image
If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays.

really?

a. it was oldrama.
b. I think you need to do a purge of the SOD and that would make you the record holder for longest stint as leader.

it would also mean this review group is only a few weeks old and seal my Legacy as the old groups last true leader and make Amlah's a pale imitation of something he "supposedly" doesn't even acknowledge existed.

Since I missed Muppets last week, I got another Boom! Studios title, Irredeemable. I will review that here along with The Flash: Rebirth #1 (of 5).
