They qualify under my definition and yes, they do indeed, rock.
Hopefully their second album lives up to the first one.

I saw them like three times. I read that the bassist and drummer left, so basically the singer is Wolfmother. Who knows when that album will come out.

That's a bummer but considering that he was the singer and lead guitar and wrote pretty much all the music from what I've read, it should still sound like the same band.

Mastodon, the Sword and Russian Circles in the same list? Not fair!
I voted Mastodon...but its a really tough choice.
Other worthy mentions would be
Spiritual Beggars (I think they are kinda new)
Maylene and the Sons of Disaster
Black Tide

Yeah, I thought I had a decent zeppelinish band but other than that one song they are pretty run of the mill. ][/mtv]

yeah a friend of mine gave me their last cd because he thought I would like "that WEED music"..ugh but yeah they have some ok songs but for the most part I think they're pretty mediocre, especially when you look at bands like sHEAVY and electric wizard who do the "retro-rock- sabbath" thing much better
