I finished the first book..

I'm picking up vol. 2 (there's only two out so far, right?) tomorrow along with Pluto vol. 1

I loved it. Alot. So, thanks to whoever kept talking about it and got me to try it out.

:D

Glad you liked it. Urasawa is amazing.

Hope you can find v2, it's not out everywhere. Midtown had it a couple of weeks ago but it hasn't shown up on Diamond and my mail order company hasn't gotten it yet.

My LCS doesn't have either Pluto or this, but several Borders near me do.

I ended up only picking up Pluto vol. 1, but I'll pick up 20th century boys vol. 2 and Pluto vol. 2 over the weekend.

What's some other manga stuff that I might like?

Stuff in the same vein as 20th Century Boys and Pluto.. more serious stuff, with good non-kiddy style art..

I added Monster to the list, already..

Vagabond is the only other manga I'm currently reading in the same vein.

It's an adaptation of Ejji Yokishawa's Mushashi which is a fictionalized account of the life of Miyomoto Mushashi.

The art is really amazing, especially in the fight sequence in the second volume of the vizbig editions.

There are two formats you can buy the series in, standard and VizBig. You'll want the VizBig. Those contain 3 volumes of the standard format and are oversized (relative to the standard manga size) for $20.

23 page preview...

I don't know for sure but since it is usually at the beginning of a chapter or a larger arc, I figured it was to make it stand out in a Jump.

Here are some that I dig that come to mind:

Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service (Dark Horse)--It's about a group of seminary students that discover they have various unique talents that allow them to find dead bodies, talk to them, and help them fulfill one last request. Part horror, part sitcom. Very, very good.

MPD Psycho (Dark Horse)--By the same writer as Kurosagi. This is about a detective with multiple personality disorder (MPD), one of which is a serial killer. Why does he have a barcode on his eye? Major conspiracy ensues. Some very brutal stuff in this. Great book

Battle Royale (Tokyopop)--Postmodern Japan in which evil government sets a class of junior high students (half of whom look like they're 25) on an island, arms them, and tells them they must kill their classmates. There can only be one winner. Extremely brutal/violent but darn good.

Death Note (Viz)--Demon intentionally drops a notebook at the feet of the smartest high school senior in Japan. If you write a person's name in the notebook, that person dies. Starts out as a cat and mouse game with a brilliant detective, but I understand it devolves into something else at some point. I'm only 3 volumes in and it's been great.

Gantz (Dark Horse)--Some people that die find themselves brought back to life by a mysterious orb named "Gantz" that arms them and has them chase and kill aliens in some type of bizarre game. But are they really alive? Very cinematic manga.

Uzumaki (Viz)--Horror story involving spirals. Very creepy. Also good by the same creator--Gyo, which is about killer fish on stilts (no joke).

It's just a bonus. To do that for the whole comic would make it expensive (especially since they are in big phonebook sized volumes). Lots of folks just read the manga then toss it too.

I saw 20th Century Boys 02 at Barnes and Noble (forgot if Borders had it too). Haven't seen it at my LCS.

These have been making the film festival rounds (subtitiled)...

I thought about checking out the first movie, but I don't want to be spoiled.. what volumes does it cover, do you know?

Also.. I did end up getting vol. 2 at Borders.

I think it was a TV show. Crunchyroll will be streaming it.
