They WERE successful. So were the Oilers and Maple Leafs at one time. But you can't live in the past. And they aren't successful as far as making money, which is the bottom line according to their owner. They COULD be successful, but they said the same thing in Quebec and Winnipeg, but they had to move because they couldn't get new arenas built.
It's a shame how the Islanders have become the red-headed stepchild in NY, but unless they get a new arena soon, it's totally realistic that they could move. The full circle; the Devils started in KC, and now the Islanders could go to KC. Las Vegas is another possiblity.
