31 things you can do with a dollar...

1. Use it as a fancy tablecloth in your dollhouse living room.
2. Buy .5 gallons of gas.
3. Buy REO Speedwagon's The Hits at your local 7-Eleven.
4. Buy a newspaper. Make a hat out of the newspaper.
5. Hold a hooker's hand.
6. Get 30 seconds of high-resolution "full-contact" Web chat time.
7. Put it all on red.
8. Get an all-day parking pass in downtown Steubenville, Ohio.
9. Buy a new doorbell button.
10. Trade it on eBay for a different dollar.
11. Buy enough yarn to knit your hamster a beach towel.
12. Get a small bag of fortune cookies. Then brag to your friends that you have a small (bag of) fortune (cookies).
13. Buy The Unwritten #1 from Vertigo Comics and post a review here.
14. Make a lightweight two-inch telescope (1X powered).
15. Buy enough breadcrumbs to go for a walk in the forest and not get lost.
16. Get 100 pennies, go to a fountain, and make 100 wishes for more money.
17. Make a testicle cozy (you'll need two dollars for two cozies).
18. Scratch and win your way out of your shithole life.
19. Make a three-second phone call from a hotel room.
20. Pay off all your debts in Mexico.
21. Make some origami. Sell it for more than a dollar to some retard who likes origami.
22. Eat it. Then laugh as you shit money. (Don't eat it again.)
23. Buy a dozen used roses.
24. Fly a tiny kite.
25. Use it as homemade Q-tip.
26. Treat your girlfriend like a cheap stripper.
27. Level a wobbly table.
28. Save an African’s life.
29. Get a black or white photo, from a picture booth.
30. Buy 20 empty aluminum cans. Fill them with urine and then sell them as cans of energy drink.
31. Leave four messages on your answering machine from a pay phone.

Number 13 FTW, amirite?

The Unwritten #1
as selected by McKegan
Written by Mike Carey
Art by Peter Gross
Cover by Yuko Shimizu

Everyone's read the Tommy Taylor books, the popular series of novels turned pop culture phenomenon about a boy wizard's adventures. And everyone knows about Tom Taylor, the boy the novels were based on, whose life was so overshadowed by his Dad's fictional epic that Tom's become a lame Z-level celebrity at best and a human viral marketing tool at worst.

But what if the resemblance goes even deeper? What if Tom is the boy-wizard of the books made flesh? And if that sounds crazy, why is it bringing him into the crosshairs of an ancient faction that has never been named in any book or text?

To discover the truth about himself, Tom must search through all the places in history where fiction and reality have intersected. And in the process, he'll learn more about that unwritten cabal and the plot they're at the center of –– a plot that spans all of literature from the first clay tablets to the gothic castles where Frankenstein was conceived to the self-adjusting stories of the internet.

A conspiracy mystery a la The Da Vinci Code, THE UNWRITTEN is the eagerly anticipated reunion of Mike Carey (X-Men, HELLBLAZER) and Peter Gross (FABLES, Chosen) – the team behind the multiple Eisner-nominated LUCIFER. Acclaimed artist Yuko Shimizu (SANDMAN: DREAM HUNTERS) joins the duo on covers, and the series kicks off with a 4-issue opening storyarc with the extra-sized 40-page debut promo-priced at only $1.00!

Vertigo | 40pg. | Color | $1.00 US | Mature Readers

The Boys: Herogasm #1
as selected by 48THRiLLS
Writer: Garth Ennis
Penciller/Inker: JOHN McCREA

An evil so profound it threatens all mankind... the mightiest heroes on the planet uniting to defend us all... a secret crisis of such utter finality that a countdown to civil or infinite war seems unavoidable... but have you ever wondered what really happens during Crossovers? The Seven, Payback, Teenage Kix, Fantastico and every other supe on Earth team up for an annual event like no other... and where the supes go, can a certain "five complications and a dog" be far behind? Vought-American prepare to make their move, in a story that will change the world of the Boys forever: Herogasm #1.

The first-ever Boys spin-off mini-series features the pairing of Ennis with Hitman artist John McCrea and covers by Boys artist and co-creator Darick Robertson!

If you would like to join the group it's easy. Just post a review and I'll add you to the member's list. As long as you stay active, eventually it will be your turn to make a pick.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. Going forward, there is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make with the new format is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadshee of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.

Image
Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.

Image
If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays.

So, in addition to me hitting my consecutive review milestone last week, the Spreadsheet of Doom has another milestone of note...

Starlord has now posted 75 total reviews! :smt023

King Impulse should make it to 25 this month and fourthman is on pace to hit 100 the first week in June assuming he doesn't pull another Watchmen.

I will almost certainly post a review of The Unwritten, though it will be several weeks late. Also, I'd love to participate in general, but things being the way they are I can probably only ever review stuff that I was already pulling or planning to pull.

Watchmen will have a review come the beginning of July, when the GN club does it. :p

The new bylaws of the wise and wonderous keeper of the spreadsheet of doom state that you may participate as you see fit. Regular contributors are added to the selection list, something tells me you have pull around this place and can be added to the list regardless.
