The way they go about dealing with the situations are different, but the initial monster of the week style setup at the beginning of each episode is similar.
...I will agree with you about The Boys seeming tame, I know I should be shocked but the shocking stuff before was funny so you could laugh at it and be shocked... I am not sure if pedophilia is funny, I will say what happens at the beginning of 30 made me laugh.

My only complaint with The Boys is that it goes over the top so often that you can become desensitized to the shocking elements in the book so much so that when it tackles an issue like pedophilia it loses some of it's impact.
