Review Group Week 174 - AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #597

Postby ****** » Wed Jun 10, 2009 8:50 am

Image

Question of the week (via iFanboy): Is Joe Kelly juicing? After not doing much of note in comics for a while he's suddenly writing some of the best books around. Four Eyes and I Kill Giants are/were amazing, those that are reading it seem to love Bad Dog, and after reading 6 months worth of ASM in basically one sitting, I'll be damned if his issues aren't the best being put out by the current Spidey brain trust. Lots of seriously fun comics from Joe Kelly right now. How long before he gets called to testify before Congress?

If you would like to join the group it's easy. Just post a review and I'll add you to the member's list. As long as you stay active, eventually it will be your turn to make a pick.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. Going forward, there is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make with the new format is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadshee of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.

Image
Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.

Image
If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays.

Can he swing, from a thread? Take a look overhead!

Look-Out! Here comes the Spider-Man!

I have a marvel subscription for ASM, so I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to read this. Review will come though.

It'll be in the recap but...
Harry after finding out that he knocked up his ex-fiance Lilly (who turned out to be Menace) has agreed to work for Norman with the Dark Avengers.

Spidey, in an effort to save Harry/find out what Norman is up to, is posing as Venom and has infiltrated the Dark Avengers.

Aunt May is having lots of old person sex with JJJ's pops and they're about to get married.
Coolio.

How do you like the sub service? What kind of discounts do you get and what condition do the books come in.

When I had subs for Transformers and GI Joe when I was a kid the books were always getting torn up in the mail before they got to me.

Who is Harry though in the Dark Avengers? Like which villain? And Spidey is pretending to be Venom? How?

Ew! Aunt May and JJJ's dad?

Harry's not joining the team, he's just working in the organization, I think in PR, of course, that could all change, the cover to #599 shows what could be Harry in a suit of armour:
Image
Peter is pretending to be Venom thanks to a fake symbiote Reed Richards made.

Thank you for clearing all that up. This looks like a cool storyline. Maybe I will pick up the first two parts.

That probably is Harry. Who else could it be?

Looking forward to picking this up tomorrow (too busy to make it to the LCS today). If I like it, I may jump on the ASM bandwagon.

Before the arc began, people were guessing Flash Thompson and John Jameson, but it's pretty obviously Harry now.
